Remote Lighting Designer information

What is a remote lighting designer?

A Remote Lighting Designer is responsible for creating lighting designs for various projects, such as theater productions, concerts, events, or architectural spaces, while working remotely. They collaborate with clients, directors, and production teams using digital lighting visualization software and communication tools. Their tasks include designing lighting plots, selecting fixtures, programming lighting cues, and ensuring the design meets artistic and technical requirements. Remote Lighting Designers often provide guidance for on-site crews to implement their designs effectively. This role requires expertise in lighting principles, software proficiency, and strong communication skills to execute projects from a distance.

What does a remote lighting designer do?

A Remote Lighting Designer typically spends their day developing lighting layouts, producing digital renderings, specifying equipment, and attending virtual meetings with architects, engineers, and clients. Collaboration is facilitated through project management platforms, video conferencing, and file-sharing tools, enabling seamless integration with multidisciplinary teams despite the remote setting. Strong communication is essential, as designers regularly present concepts, respond to feedback, and coordinate timelines to ensure projects progress smoothly. This remote setup offers the flexibility of independent work while maintaining the collaborative spirit that is vital in delivering successful lighting projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote lighting designer?

To thrive as a Remote Lighting Designer, you need expertise in lighting design principles, color theory, and spatial planning, usually supported by a degree in lighting design, architecture, or a related field. Familiarity with lighting design software such as AutoCAD, DIALux, Revit, or Vectorworks, and knowledge of relevant standards or certifications (like CLD or IES) are important. Strong communication, creativity, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for collaborating remotely and delivering innovative solutions. These competencies enable designers to efficiently create effective lighting plans, communicate ideas clearly to clients and teams, and meet project goals from a distance.

Job description

Senior Interior Designer

GTA (Remote)

About Moralia

Moralia is a Canadian luxury millwork and interior design brand. We design and manufacture refined kitchens, closets, wall systems, and architectural interiors for discerning clients who value precision, refinement, and timeless design - across both residential and commercial environments.

We approach every project with exceptional care, precision, and discipline.

Our work sits at the intersection of design excellence, technical rigor, and disciplined execution.

The Role

We are seeking a Senior Interior Designer to join Moralia in a remote capacity, with a primary focus on GTA-based and international projects.

This position carries meaningful influence over design direction and client outcomes. It is suited to an experienced designer who is equally comfortable shaping creative vision and taking responsibility - for clients, projects, and execution.

You will work in close collaboration with Moralia's leadership, while maintaining clear authorship and accountability over your projects.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Leading interior design projects from concept through execution
  • Developing refined, contemporary design concepts aligned with Moralia's aesthetic
  • Acting as a primary client-facing lead on assigned projects
  • Managing projects, timelines, and client accounts with professionalism and discretion
  • Designing millwork-intensive interiors with a clear understanding of construction and detailing
  • Coordinating lighting layouts and architectural interior elements
  • Conducting site visits and site measurements as required
  • Producing and reviewing high-quality drawings and presentations
  • Overseeing and contributing to high-quality visualizations and renderings

Projects may span GTA, North America, Europe, and the Caribbean.

Experience & Skills
  • 7+ years of professional interior design experience
  • Strong background in luxury residential and/or high-end commercial design
  • Demonstrated experience working with custom millwork and architectural interiors
  • Clear understanding of how millwork is constructed and installed
  • Excellent client-facing, communication, and project-management skills
  • Strong command of contemporary and modern design aesthetics
  • Knowledgeable in lighting design and coordination
  • Advanced proficiency in:
    • AutoCAD
    • SketchUp
    • 3ds Max (or comparable rendering tools)
  • Ability to produce or direct high-quality renderings and visual presentations

Assets:

  • Knowledge of Mozaik or millwork engineering software
  • Experience working in design-driven, architect-led environments
Who This Role Is For

This role is for someone who:

  • takes ownership of projects and client relationships
  • balances creative confidence with technical discipline
  • is comfortable working independently while collaborating with a small, senior team
  • understands that refinement comes from precision, judgment, and follow-through

This role is not for someone seeking:

  • purely conceptual design work
  • a junior or support-only position
  • a loosely structured or low-accountability environment
Work Structure
  • Remote / hybrid role, structured intentionally rather than casually
  • Must be based in Ontario and available for site visits
  • Reliable access to a vehicle is required
Compensation
  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience and responsibility
  • Performance-based incentives tied to contribution and project outcomes

Excellence. Discipline. Pride in the work.

If you believe design reflects judgment - and you want to contribute to a refined, excellence-driven brand - we would like to meet you.
