Position Summary
The Manager of the Sloane Art Library oversees the day-to-day operations of the Art Library. This position evaluates staffing needs, hires, trains, and supervises student employees, and serves as the primary contact for security and facility maintenance issues for the Art Library space. The Manager works closely with the Head of the Art Library, the Director of Research and Instructional Services, and the Director of Access and User Engagement to develop, implement, and maintain library policies related to circulation services and use of all public spaces in the Art Library. This position manages the storage, organization, and retrieval of materials in the Art Library, oversees day-to-day operations of the Art Library's public service operations, and provides information services, technology assistance, and research assistance to students and scholars who visit or contact the Art Library. The Manager collaborates with the Head of the Art Library on programming and outreach related to Art Library special collections (Artists' Books and Zines) and may contribute to the Art Library's instruction program. Some evening or weekend hours may be required.
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Graduation from a 4-year college or university and 1 year of experience in a library or archives and/or records management; or H.S.and 5 years of experience in a library or archives and/or records management; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Degrees must be received from appropriately(ALA) acredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Broad knowledge of art and art history.
* Excellent customer service skills with the ability to meet high service standards in all interactions.
* Demonstrated experience supervising others.
* Demonstrated ability to locate, analyze, and interpret data contained in complex online systems, such as scholarly databases or integrated library systems.
* Computing skills, including familiarity across operating systems and fluency with office applications as well as comfort troubleshooting both familiar and new technology.
* Attention to detail, time-management, organizational skills, and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a rapidly changing environment.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Degree in Art or Art History.
* Experience teaching about and with Artists' Books.
* Experience working in an academic/research library with an integrated library system.
* Bibliographic knowledge of one or more European languages.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
* Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds with or without accommodations..
* Ability to do sustained work at a computer.
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
