Remote Lego Engineering information

What is remote Lego engineering?

Remote Lego engineering is the practice of designing, building, and sometimes programming Lego structures or models from a distance, often using digital collaboration tools. This can involve working with virtual Lego building software, guiding teams or students online, or creating instructions and prototypes for others to build. Remote Lego engineers may work in education, entertainment, or even prototyping for design and engineering projects. The role combines creativity, problem-solving, and technology, allowing collaboration and innovation no matter where team members are located.

How do remote Lego engineers typically collaborate with team members on project designs and builds?

Remote Lego engineers often use collaborative digital platforms to share ideas, design plans, and progress updates with their team. Video conferencing tools and shared 3D modeling software allow team members to brainstorm, review prototypes, and troubleshoot challenges together, even when working from different locations. Regular virtual meetings help keep everyone aligned, and cloud-based resources ensure that design files and documentation are easily accessible to all. This setup fosters creativity and teamwork while maintaining clear communication throughout each project phase.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote Lego engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Lego Engineer, you need a strong background in mechanical design, structural engineering, and a creative aptitude for model building, often supported by a degree in engineering, architecture, or a related field. Familiarity with digital design tools like LEGO Digital Designer (LDD), BrickLink Studio, and CAD software is typically required. Strong communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate remotely are essential soft skills in this role. These skills ensure innovative, structurally sound designs and effective teamwork in a distributed work environment.

Senior QA Engineer

BrainPOP

New York, NY • On-site, Remote

Full-time

Posted 8 days ago

Job description

For over two decades, BrainPOP has been trusted by educators and parents worldwide as a source of engaging and impactful learning experiences for all kids. With a presence in over two-thirds of U.S. districts through school and district subscriptions and an estimated annual reach of 25 million students, BrainPOP is empowering kids to take agency over their learning and excel in and out of the classroom.
The company was acquired in 2022 by KIRKBI, the family-owned holding and investment company of the LEGO brand, marking a significant milestone as their first acquisition in the digital learning realm. We are thrilled to continue making learning fun and accessible with the strategic guidance and support of KIRKBI.
About the Role
Reporting to the Director, Quality Assurance, the Senior QA Engineer will join a squad (engineers and a product manager) that owns core identity and account systems powering the product, ensuring users can securely access and move through the platform. You'll bring technical expertise, a leadership mindset, and a commitment to continuous improvement to drive quality engineering through scalable test automation and API validation. You will own quality for the squad's work, develop a deep understanding of the surface area to advocate for customers, and evolve critical automation infrastructure, with particular focus on our Playwright-based testing framework.
As a Senior QA Engineer, you will work independently on business-critical projects and lead QA efforts for complex, high-stakes initiatives. This squad's systems sit upstream of login, access, and data sync for every user on the platform, so reliability here has outsized impact. Your contributions are measurable at the company level: faster and more reliable delivery cycles, earlier defect detection, fewer production regressions, and greater confidence in release quality. Whether through advancing automation coverage, refining test strategy, or scaling tooling, your work helps teams ship with greater speed and fewer surprises.
The preferred candidate will be within commutable distance of our NYC HQ and spend at least one day in the office weekly. Candidates based in the Eastern time zone may also be considered.
You Will:
  • Leadership & Influence: Shape test strategy in partnership with engineering and product leadership, and influence decisions that affect delivery speed, stability, and user experience on business-critical initiatives.
  • Technical Ownership: Own and advance key parts of BrainPOP's test automation ecosystem, with a focus on our Playwright framework. Improve coverage, reliability, and speed through maintainable, scalable code and infrastructure.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with Product, Design, and Engineering to embed quality throughout the development lifecycle. Participate in onboarding, architectural reviews, and initiatives that raise engineering standards across teams.
  • Continuous Improvement & Knowledge Sharing: Champion quality engineering best practices through documentation, internal tech talks, and process refinement. Surface and introduce tools, workflows, and patterns that raise the bar org-wide.
  • System Quality & Risk Management: Own the health of the end-to-end system. Proactively identify, investigate, and resolve issues, escalating when needed, so releases ship fast and with confidence.
You Are
  • An articulate communicator with sharp analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Energized by finding, regressing, and resolving issues before they reach customers.
  • Comfortable working with multiple stakeholders simultaneously and a genuine team player.
  • Curious about emerging technologies and quick to evaluate how they can strengthen QA processes.
  • Confident navigating ambiguity, strategic about when to escalate, and able to influence outcomes across squads through reliability and presence.
On Your Resume
  • 4-6 years testing complex web-based applications, including preparing, documenting, and executing test criteria, test cases, test scripts, and test plans across the full product development lifecycle.
  • 4-6 years writing and executing automated tests in JavaScript with a modern test automation framework; hands-on Playwright experience strongly preferred.
  • Practical experience using AI-assisted tools in your day-to-day testing workflow - e.g., using tools like Claude Code to generate test scaffolding, accelerate debugging/triage, or build lightweight internal tooling that speeds up QA work.
  • Experience testing authentication, authorization, or identity-adjacent systems (SSO, OAuth/SAML, session management, permissions) and/or systems that integrate with third-party platforms (LMS rostering, CRM, payment processors) strongly preferred.
Location
The BrainPOP team operates in a hybrid work environment: Each role has remote flexibility and an in-person component at our New York headquarters or other meeting locations. Based on the requirements of a specific role, we may prioritize hiring within a commutable distance of our New York headquarters or in another region relevant to that role.
We can employ individuals residing in the following approved hiring states:

We take a geo-neutral approach to compensation within the US, meaning that we pay based on job function and level, not location. We have competitive pay bands for all other countries based on market standards. Individual compensation decisions are based on a number of factors, including experience level, skill set, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company. Based on these factors, we expect most of the candidates offered roles at our company to fall healthily throughout the range. We recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than this job description, as posted. If so, the updated salary range will be communicated to you as a candidate.
