Job description

At Trunk, our mission is to help teams create high-quality software quickly. We've helped engineerings teams at: Google X, Zillow, and Brex to understand why their builds fail, which tests are flaky, and how to ship code faster without sacrificing reliability. AI has made writing code 10x faster, but shipping is still painfully slow. The bottleneck has shifted downstream - to merge conflicts, flaky tests, inconsistent code quality, and dozens of other frictions that drain productivity and morale. Engineering teams that can stay focused on designing, implementing, and delivering software will build magical, high-quality projects - and they'll be happier doing it. We're building a CI Reliability Platform that empowers teams to land code faster and develop happier.

Our founders launched Trunk in 2021 after designing, delivering, and scaling software at Uber, Google, YouTube, and Microsoft. We raised a $25M Series A led by Initialized Capital (Garry Tan) and a16z (Peter Levine), with investments from Haystack Ventures, Garage VC, and the founders of GitHub (Tom Preston-Werner), Apollo GraphQL (Geoff Schmidt), Algolia (Nicolas Dessaigne), and Peopl.ai (Oleg Rogynsky).

We're looking for a Developer Marketing Lead who thrives in the creative chaos of early-stage startups. You've built pipelines at a tech company before and loved the variety - producing customer success stories one day, coordinating events the next, rolling out ad campaigns the day after. As our sole marketing hire, you'll have the freedom to own the entire marketing function. If you're energized by the challenge of making developers care about tooling to increase their productivity and get a kick out of seeing your work directly move the revenue needle, this role is for you.

You will have two strategic objectives: grow revenue and accelerate our move into the enterprise market. The responsibilities below reflect our current best thinking on how marketing can drive these goals - but we expect you to challenge, refine, and evolve these tactics as you learn what works. What matters is hitting the objectives; how you get there is yours to shape. You also will have the opportunity to partner closely with our Founders to craft the strongest messaging.
What you'll do \uD83E\uDDD1‍\uD83D\uDCBB
  • Own the marketing strategy and execution - Design and run campaigns across both bottom-up (developer-led, community) and top-down (enterprise ABM, executive messaging) motions. Drive pipeline from first touch through enterprise adoption. Lean on our Founders to help craft the best messaging.
  • Build enterprise demand generation - Execute campaigns targeting large engineering orgs, create executive-level positioning for Directors/VPs/CTOs, and enable Sales with competitive intel, messaging, and materials that close deals.
  • Optimize paid and organic acquisition - Own the full funnel from awareness to SQL. Manage community sponsorships, paid campaigns, SEO, content distribution, and events. Set up attribution and kill what doesn't work.
  • Launch products and be the cross-functional hub - Own GTM for new releases. Work embedded with DevRel, Product, Engineering, and Sales to amplify technical content, shape roadmap with market insights, and build systems that make the whole company better at marketing.

  • 5-7+ years of B2B marketing experience with at least 3 years of marketing to developers or technical audiences
  • Proven demand generation chops - Track record of building and scaling acquisition funnels with measurable impact on pipeline and revenue
  • Strong instincts for technical messaging - ability to translate complex developer tools into clear value props and positioning (please share samples in application)
  • Resourceful executor with startup DNA - You've thrived in lean environments where you've personally built landing pages, written ad copy, managed event logistics, created sales decks, and jumped in wherever needed to move the needle
  • Cross-functional collaboration - Experience partnering with Product, Sales, and DevRel/Community teams in fast-moving environments

  • Worked in developer productivity categories (devtools, infrastructure, API) and understand developer workflows, pain points, and buying behavior

  • 45 Minute call with our Lead Recruiter to learn about your background, what you're looking for next, and talk about Trunk's GTM Team
  • 1 Hour call with Hiring Manager/Head of GTM to go through your portfolio, how you prioritize, and some quick think on your feet marketing exercises
  • 2 Hour Take Home Exercise and then a 30 minute chat with our CEO to review and improve your messaging
  • 3 Hour Onsite Interview- meet with DevRel, Sales, and Hiring Manager/Head of GTM
The salary and equity range for this role are: $170K - $190K and .14% - .18%.
