Job description

The Office of Integrative Learning and Life Design (ILLD) seeks a Website Content Coordinator to oversee and implement the uploading, formatting, maintenance, and quality assurance of pages on the department website. This position will manage the content migration and maintenance for the old and new website platform pre-, during, and post-transition. This position will be responsible for enhancing our digital presence, engaging our audience, and strengthening our brand across Johns Hopkins University by maintaining our new website. This role is ideal for someone passionate about social media, branding, content creation, and audience engagement.
Under the guidance of the Associate Director for Communications, the Website Content Coordinator will ensure the website is easy to navigate and presents its content in a logical, accessible order. This position will assist in the development and execution of strategic plans and campaigns related to backend website functionality, as well as public-facing visual design, usability, and multimedia. This position will serve as a guide for effective SEO tactics, develop and enforce social media guidelines, and oversee the creation and development of content for the new website and its migration timeline while transitioning existing content from the previous website.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Content Inventory & Mapping: Audit legacy systems to identify what content needs to be migrated, archived, or deleted. Map legacy content structure to the new information architecture and templates.
  • Migration Execution: Transfer digital assets using automated tools, scripts, or manual entry to maintain data integrity. Reconstruct page layouts to meet new design and brand specifications.
  • Quality Assurance (QA) & Validation: Audit migrated pages to ensure text, images, and attachments match the source system without content loss. Verify and update functional elements like header hierarchies, internal links, and redirects.
  • Optimization & Compliance: Optimize media assets (e.g., proper scaling, descriptive alt-text) and ensure the new pages meet the latest accessibility and web performance standards. Implement technical SEO best practices, including canonicalization and semantic structure.
  • Oversee day-to-day management of website content: Review and "clean" content to ensure consistency in messaging, branding, and accessibility, and provide guidance in the application of university guidelines.
  • Web Design and Content Management: Assist the Associate Director for Communications with the development and strategic plans related to website visual design, usability, and multimedia aspects.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Three years of related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Digital Media Design, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Experience using web-based content management systems (e.g., Expression Engine, WordPress, Site Executive).
  • Familiarity with JavaScript and JQuery and managing websites within a Content Management System, preferably Drupal.
  • Experience with design-related tools including Adobe CS4/5 Photoshop and Illustrator.
