Position Overview

The Software Development Engineer and Tester (SDET) supports mission-critical government projects in partnership with New York State of Health. This role contributes to software development, testability, and automation strategies that support continuous integration and continuous delivery for Java-based enterprise applications supporting the Health Benefit Exchange, which provides comprehensive health coverage to more than 7.0 million New Yorkers.


Key ResponsibilitiesDevelopment and QA Collaboration
  • Work effectively with both Development and QA teams.
  • Contribute to application code.
  • Improve application testability.
  • Implement automation strategies that support continuous integration and continuous delivery.
Test Automation and Framework Development
  • Design and develop test automation frameworks and scripts using Selenium with Java.
  • Analyze and write automation scripts for complex business rules and rules engines.
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or GitHub Actions.
Application, API, and Database Testing
  • Develop and test RESTful Web Services.
  • Work with JSON and XML.
  • Use API testing tools such as Postman or REST Assured.
  • Apply relational database, SQL, and database validation techniques.
  • Write simple and complex SQL queries, preferably with DB2 SQL syntax, including PL/SQL.
Enterprise Application Support
  • Support large-scale enterprise applications with high availability and complex integrations.
  • Apply knowledge of Java-based enterprise application technologies, database concepts, EDI, SOAP UI, Rational Quality Manager, Agile methodologies, AccelQ, and UI Path.

QualificationsEducation
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering.
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years and maximum 8 years of experience in software development or Software Development Engineer in Test roles within Java-based enterprise applications. [Required]
  • Minimum 1 year of experience supporting large-scale enterprise applications with high availability and complex integrations. [Required]
  • Strong experience with Core Java/J2EE, Spring Framework, ORM technologies such as Hibernate/JPA, Java build tools such as Maven/Gradle, and JUnit/TestNG.
  • Experience designing and developing test automation frameworks and scripts in Selenium with Java.
  • Proven experience analyzing and writing automation scripts for complex business rules and rules engines.
  • Experience developing and testing RESTful Web Services and working with JSON/XML.
  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or GitHub Actions.
  • Knowledge of database concepts, including DB2, EDI 834 and 837, SOAP UI, Rational Quality Manager, Agile methodologies, AccelQ, and UI Path.
Skills
