About the Role As a Solution Architect, you will play a pivotal role in the design, delivery, and evolution of complex digital transformation initiatives. You will own the technical solution from initial discovery and architecture through implementation, optimization, and project completion.


This position has a particular focus onapplication and system performance optimization across Java, IBM i/AS400, and DB2 environments. We are looking for someone who can evaluate performance at both the application and operating-system levels, identify bottlenecks, and architect practical solutions that improve scalability, responsiveness, stability, and overall system efficiency.


You will work across multiple projects, conducting research, facilitating technical workshops, documenting solutions, and presenting and defending architectural decisions to clients and internal stakeholders. You will also act as a senior escalation point for complex technical matters and help ensure the successful completion of each project phase.


What You Will Be Doing

  • Own the technical solution throughout the full project lifecycle, ensuring alignment with client requirements, business objectives, and project goals.
  • Assess and optimize application and system performance acrossJava, IBM i/AS400, and DB2 environments.
  • Analyze performance bottlenecks at the application, database, operating-system, and infrastructure levels.
  • Recommend and implement strategies to improve application responsiveness, transaction throughput, resource utilization, scalability, and system stability.
  • Review Java application behaviour, including memory utilization, garbage collection, threading, connection management, and application-server performance.
  • Evaluate IBM i system performance, including workload management, job activity, CPU and memory consumption, subsystem configuration, and system resource utilization.
  • Assess DB2 database performance, including query execution, indexing, access paths, SQL efficiency, locking, database configuration, and workload behaviour.
  • Research and evaluate technical options to inform solution architecture and modernization strategies.
  • Architect solutions spanning Java, PHP, IBM i, DB2, and other relevant technologies based on the unique requirements of each engagement.
  • Translate business and technical requirements into scalable, maintainable, and supportable solution designs.
  • Lead technical discovery sessions, architecture workshops, and solution-design discussions with clients and internal teams.
  • Present, explain, and defend architectural recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Produce clear architecture documentation, technical specifications, diagrams, recommendations, and implementation roadmaps.
  • Collaborate with development, infrastructure, database, delivery, and client teams to support successful implementation.
  • Champion the effective use of architecture standards, development tools, performance-monitoring tools, and delivery best practices.
  • Serve as a senior technical escalation point during discovery, development, testing, deployment, and production-support activities.
  • Balance modernization objectives with the realities of complex legacy and mission-critical environments.


What You Must Have

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 12+ years of hands-on experience designing and architecting large-scale, web-based enterprise systems.
  • Demonstrated experience as a Solution Architect, Technical Architect, or senior application architect.
  • Expert-level web application development experience using technologies such as Java, PHP, or comparable enterprise application platforms.
  • Strong experience diagnosing and resolving complex application and system performance issues.
  • Hands-on knowledge ofJava performance optimization, including JVM behaviour, memory management, garbage collection, threading, application servers, and application profiling.
  • Experience assessing performance withinIBM i, iSeries, or AS400 environments.
  • Strong understanding ofDB2 performance optimization, including SQL tuning, indexing, query plans, access paths, locking, and database workload analysis.
  • Ability to investigate performance issues across multiple layers, including application code, database, operating system, middleware, and infrastructure.
  • Experience designing solutions for complex, integrated, and business-critical application environments.
  • Strong technical documentation, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and defend technical decisions with clients, development teams, and senior stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications
