Job description

Position Summary

VantagePoint Alliance (VPA) is seeking an experienced Principal / Lead Electrical Engineer to support the engineering, design, and execution of utility-scale power generation projects. This position will provide technical leadership for electrical systems associated with fossil-fueled, simple-cycle, combined-cycle, cogeneration, and industrial power facilities.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience designing and integrating electrical systems from project conception through detailed engineering, construction support, commissioning, and startup. This individual will serve as a technical leader, mentor engineering teams, interface directly with clients, and provide engineering oversight throughout the project lifecycle.

This is a remote position with occasional travel for client meetings, site visits, design reviews, construction support, and commissioning activities.


Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Lead electrical engineering activities for power generation projects from conceptual design through commissioning and startup.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record (where applicable) and provide technical oversight for engineering deliverables.
  • Mentor and guide multidisciplinary engineering teams while maintaining engineering quality and consistency.
  • Review and approve electrical calculations, studies, specifications, drawings, and equipment selections.
  • Support proposal development, technical presentations, and client pursuits.

Electrical System Design

Lead or review engineering associated with:

  • Generator systems
  • Generator Step-Up (GSU) transformers
  • Auxiliary transformers
  • Medium-voltage distribution systems
  • High-voltage interconnections
  • Switchgear and motor control centers (MCCs)
  • Protective relaying systems
  • Electrical balance-of-plant (BOP) systems
  • Plant grounding and lightning protection
  • Station service systems
  • Emergency power systems
  • Battery and UPS systems
  • Power monitoring and metering systems
  • Distributed Control System (DCS) interfaces
  • SCADA integration
  • Plant lighting systems

Power System Studies

Perform or review:

  • Participate in HAZOPs, design reviews, constructability reviews, and risk assessments.
  • Support procurement activities through specification development, technical bid evaluations, and vendor document reviews.
  • Provide field engineering support during construction, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and root cause analysis of plant electrical systems.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as primary electrical engineering point of contact for clients.
  • Present engineering solutions and recommendations to project stakeholders.
  • Interface with utilities, equipment manufacturers, EPC contractors, and owner representatives.
  • Support development of long-term client relationships through technical excellence and responsiveness.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of electrical engineering experience.
  • Prefer Minimum 5 years supporting utility-scale power generation projects.
  • Demonstrated experience with fossil-fueled power plant design required.
  • Combined-cycle power plant experience highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems from utility interconnection through plant distribution systems.
  • Experience supporting projects through detailed engineering, construction, commissioning, and startup.
