About the Role

We are seeking a Staff Engineer I (Java) to provide senior technical leadership for backend development supporting the Workflow Orchestration Initiative. This role focuses on building scalable, secure, and reusable Java-based microservices that power enterprise workflow and automation solutions using platforms such as Appian.
You will contribute to the Payment Business Units Workflow Intelligence and Optimization initiative, partnering closely with architects and senior engineers to design and deliver high-quality backend services and integrations.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design and development of Java backend services supporting workflow orchestration platforms (e.g., Appian)
  • Define backend architecture standards, design patterns, and best practices for workflow-centric systems
  • Design and build scalable microservices using Java and Spring Boot / Spring-based frameworks
  • Develop secure and reusable REST APIs and enterprise integrations
  • Implement event-driven and messaging-based integration patterns
  • Collaborate with product, infrastructure, security, and data teams for end-to-end solution alignment
  • Support CI/CD, DevSecOps practices, observability, and automated testing
  • Mentor engineers and lead code/design reviews to promote engineering excellence
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 7+ years of enterprise application development experience
  • 5+ years of strong Java development experience
  • Deep expertise in microservices architecture and API design
  • Strong experience with Spring Boot / Spring Cloud
  • Hands-on experience with RESTful services and service security
  • Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred), schema design, and performance tuning
