What is a Remote Java Automation job?

A Remote Java Automation job involves using the Java programming language to create automated tests or processes, typically for software applications, while working from a location outside of a traditional office setting. Professionals in this role develop, execute, and maintain automated test scripts to ensure software quality and efficiency. They often use frameworks like Selenium, TestNG, or JUnit and collaborate with development teams via online tools. Remote Java Automation engineers are essential in speeding up software delivery and reducing manual testing efforts.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Java Automation Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Java Automation Engineer, you need strong programming skills in Java, experience with software testing methodologies, and often a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with automation frameworks such as Selenium, TestNG, Jenkins, and version control systems like Git is typically required, along with certifications like ISTQB being advantageous. Excellent problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective communication are essential for collaborating remotely and managing tasks independently. These skills ensure the efficient development, testing, and delivery of high-quality software products in distributed work environments.

Job description

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Java Backend Engineer to design, build, and scale the core systems that power brokerage account operations for DriveWealth's global institutional partners. ย This role is with DriveWealth's Party & Account Services, the team responsible for customer onboarding, KYC and compliance workflows, brokerage account lifecycle management, and integrations with clearing, tax reporting, and regulatory systems.

You will work closely with product managers, compliance, quantitative, and risk teams to translate complex regulatory and business requirements into robust, production-grade backend systems. These systems span a wide range of capabilities, including support for joint and retirement account types, tax form processing, domain event-driven workflows, and downstream clearing integrations with platforms such as FIS, DTCC and InteliClear.

Build the account infrastructure that global institutional partners and millions of investors depend on every trading day.

What You'll Do
  • Ensure Tier-1 API availability and meet SLA requirements (150 ms target ) across core services.
  • Design and deliver backend Java services for DriveWealth's Party & Account System (PAS)-the core platform that manages user registration, KYC workflows, and the full brokerage account lifecycle for global institutional partners.
  • Lead the technical design and implementation of new account types from API ingestion through validation, data storage, and event publishing.
  • Build and maintain REST services and Kafka-driven asynchronous processors that support account operations across equities, options, and fixed-income asset classes.
  • Own integrations with downstream clearing and reporting systems, including InteliClear (INTC/AOD), FIS, DTCC ACAT, and BetaNXT tax reporting.
  • Partner cross-functionally with quantitative, product, compliance, and risk teams to translate regulatory requirements (KYC, W-8/W-9 tax forms, FINRA rules) into precise, testable system behavior
  • Monitor production systems (EKS, Postgres, DynamoDB, Redis, Kafka) and diagnose latency, throughput, resiliency, and consistency issues across distributed asynchronous workflows.
You Bring
  • 7+ years of experience building backend systems in Java, with strong proficiency in Java functional programming concepts and Spring Boot 3.
  • Deep experience with DynamoDB, including partition key and sort key design, GSI access patterns, conditional writes, and atomic operations.
  • Hands-on experience designing and operating Kafka-based systems.
  • Experience in brokerage, fintech, or clearing environments. Familiarity with account types, KYC workflows, tax reporting (W-8/W-9), and clearing file formats (DTCC, INTC) is highly desirable.
  • Ability to write comprehensive unit and integration tests using JUnit 5 and Mockito, with a strong understanding of testing behavior versus implementation details.
  • Strong understanding of transactional boundaries, eventual consistency, and post-commit side-effect patterns in distributed systems.
  • Experience deploying and operating applications on AWS, including DynamoDB, S3 and SQS.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate compliance and legal requirements into clear, unambiguous technical specifications.
  • Strong expertise in REST API design, including HTTP semantics, error modeling, API versioning, and backward compatibility.
  • Strong system design skills, with the ability to architect solutions that address both functional and non-functional requirements, including scalability, reliability, performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Experience with Redis-based caching and distributed locking patterns
Special Knowledge (Nice to Have, But Not Required)
  • Experience working with internal shared libraries, Maven multi-module repositories, and JFrog Artifactory.
  • Familiarity with LLMs, Agents, prompt engineering, RAG, embeddings, vector databases, and semantic search patterns.
  • Experience building AI-powered applications using frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, or Strands SDK.
  • Exposure to agentic AI architectures, including multi-agent orchestration, tool calling, workflow automation, memory management, and HITL approval pattern.
  • Familiarity with MCP, AI tool integrations, and API-driven agent ecosystems.
Location

This role is open to candidates in the following locations:ย
New York, NY - Hybridย

  • This role is expected to come into the office 2-3 days/week on a cadence set by the Hiring Manager/Team.
  • If you're not based in one of the locations listed above, this role is not a fit, and we cannot accommodate remote work outside these locations.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. DriveWealth does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.

Pay Range: $160,000 USD - $190,000 USD
