Job description

Job Overview:
This role executes wholesale accounting and reporting processes which include but are not limited to, oversight of revenue and inventory of the natural segment and small business units. This role executes the activities of the month-end reporting closing procedures into the consolidated entity as well as executing the audit and SOX controls deliverables, and periodically present to upper management within the department. This position interfaces with all levels of the Company, but primarily interacts daily with finance operations, procurement, inventory control and merchandising providing and interpreting financial data to inform business partners to drive decisions

Job Responsibilities:
  • Execute the strategy for Natural accounting using strong communication, and collaboration skills to partner cross-functionally to drive complete and accurate financials.
    • Primary responsibilities include weekly reviews and problem solving based on transactional details along with month-end closing activities which include system closing, entries, reconciliations, analytics and reporting along with supporting both external and internal audits and SOX compliance.
  • Collaborate with internal business partners to provide analytical deliverables including but not limited to identifying business drivers such as monitoring inventory levels, cost fluctuations, item mix and procurement activities.
  • Proactively drive efficiencies across accounting processes applying a continuous improvement mindset and lean skill sets.
    • Activities include identifying opportunities to refine, standardize, automate and/or streamline financial processes and operations to enhance effectiveness, accuracy, and overall analytical capabilities.
  • Proactively drives significant ad-hoc projects and analysis that provide insight to senior leadership to facilitate action surrounding procurement and operations.
    Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
Education/ Certifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a finance related discipline (preferably Accounting or Finance)

Experience:
  • 4+ years of progressive work experience in an accounting / finance environment with diverse experience in accounting operations.
  • Food distribution experience a plus.
  • Experience diagnosing, isolating, and resolving issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.
  • Demonstrated experience participating in continuous improvement initiatives and root cause analysis preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/ Abilities
  • Knowledge of finance practices, accounting & auditing principles, as well as the reporting and analysis of financial and operational data
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally in a matrix structure and influence stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively articulate an issue or point of view to a varied audience both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to meet the rigorous deadlines of a growth-oriented company; ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities, coordinate and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and define business problems and identify proper operational or process solutions.
  • Solid values and ambitious standards of ethics, integrity, inclusion and trust
  • Exceptional financial competence, strong business acumen, robust organizational & technical skills
  • Knowledge of accounting systems and processes, exceptional communication skills and the ability to grow & develop a highly engaged team.

  • Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.

Work Environment:
Remote Role:
  • This position is classified as remote where the associate will perform remote work from their primary residence. Remote associates are welcome to work from the office but are not required to do so. While remote associates are not required to work from an office on a regular basis, they may be required to come to the office or other UNFI locations for necessary business reasons or if directed to do so by their manager.

  • This position may require the associate to travel to company offices, distribution centers, or other locations for specific meetings or other business reasons.
