Position Summary:

Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will oversee all accounting activities, including financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, and internal controls. This role is pivotal in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data, supporting strategic planning, and implementing systems and processes that support scalability. The ideal candidate is both technically skilled and business savvy, with experience in eCommerce marketplace sector preferred. You will provide strategic financial guidance and support, collaborate across departments, and ensure alignment with our business goals. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader with a startup mindset and the ability to scale financial operations as we grow.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Accounting & Financial Reporting
    • Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting department including A/R, A/P, GL, inventory accounting, and payroll/benefits.
    • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
    • Prepare external reporting requirements to investors, lenders and other stakeholders as required
    • Support FP&A in close analysis, identifying drivers, variances and trends to provide actionable insights to management.
    • Support budgeting and forecasting financial modeling, ensuring accurate accounting of capital investments and planning initiatives.
    • Ensure proper accounting treatment for new business models and revenue streams.
  • Audit & Compliance
    • Maintain a robust system of internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial data.
    • Coordinate the preparation of audit schedules and liaise with external auditors.
    • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations, including sales tax in multiple jurisdictions.
    • Manage corporate administration and all other external reporting as required
  • Financial Operations and Risk Management:
    • Oversee treasury operations including cash flow management, forecasting, banking relationships, and short-term investment strategies to ensure optimal liquidity and financial stability.
    • Oversee risk management, insurance policies, and related compliance documentation.
  • Systems & Process Improvement
    • Evaluate and enhance financial systems, accounting software, and ERP integrations to improve efficiency and reporting capabilities.
    • Lead evaluation and implementation to new ERP system.
    • Implement best practices in financial processes and reporting standards.
  • Team Leadership and Development:
    • Build and scale the accounting team, including hiring, mentoring, and developing top talent both in house and outsourced
    • Create a culture of financial discipline and operational excellence within the organization.
    • Collaborate with other departments such as marketing, product, and operations to ensure cross-functional alignment.


Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of progressive finance experience, with at least 3-5 years in a senior leadership role in a high-growth startup, ideally in eCommerce marketplace or retail tech.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field; CPA required.
  • In-depth understanding of GAAP and IFRS accounting principles and regulatory requirements.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial tools, software and ERP systems such as Excel, NetSuite, WiseBuy, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead accurate and compliant financial reporting in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Hands-on experience in managing financial operations, including accounting, financial reporting, treasury, and tax.
  • Exceptional leadership and team-building skills, with experience managing and scaling accounting teams.

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience.

Initial base salary range for this remote position = $140,000 - 180,000
