The Role at a Glance

We are excited to bring on an Underwriting (Sr Consultant) to our Specialty Underwriting Team.  This position will not require the employee to come into the office.

As an Underwriting Sr Consultant for Lincoln’s Specialty Underwriting Team, you will analyze and deliver on more complex Underwriting assignments & projects.  You will cross train and underwrite EB, GI/SI and COLI business.   You will also have exposure to underwriting individual life insurance applications within your designated approval limit of up to $20,000,000 (with appropriate second sign) and up to age 85.  You will evaluate & assess more complex risks to determine whether to accept an insurance application and determine the appropriate coverage & risk.     If this sounds like you, please read on!

What you'll be doing
  • Cross Training and underwriting EB, GI/SI and COLI
  • Underwriting Individual Life Insurance - Making critical risk decisions on whether to accept, modify, or decline a risk through evaluation of an individual's medical history or physical condition, occupational hazard, and financial background.
  • Underwriting complex medical and financial cases to include:  Premium Finance designs, Foreign Nationals, HIV+ applicants and professional athletes
  • Reviewing inforce underwriting functions to include: reinstatements, term conversions, and policy changes
  • Enhancing departmental outcomes by sharing knowledge with team members and providing advice on more complex underwriting determinations.
  • Evaluating and underwriting life insurance applications to make determinations on the terms, coverage, and rating classification within your designated approval limit 
  • Identifying and recommending process improvements that significantly reduce workloads or improve quality
  • Mentoring & Providing second signature review of life insurance applications
  • Providing training to less experienced team members on underwriting procedures and guidelines.
  • Representing the company by responding to questions during agency visits and developing relationships with agents and partners.
What we’re looking for

Must-haves:

  • 5-7+ years of experience in Underwriting Individual Life Insurance 
  • Demonstrated Excellence in:  Problem Solving / Analysis; Comprehension of Complex Information; Influencing Others; Risk Assessment; Demonstrated decision making using sound judgment; Negotiation Skills; Managing Conflict
  • Developed Skills in: analyzing and interpreting complex financial documents including profit/loss statements, income statements, and balance sheets
  • Strong Written and Verbal Communication skills
  • Intermediate in: Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • A demonstrated track record of working with minimal supervision, being a self-starter and working with others in a team environment 
  • Undergraduate degree or 4+ years of comparable work experience

Nice-to-haves:  

  • Industry Exams – ALU 101, 201, 202, & LOMA encouraged
  • Developed Skills in: Estate Growth Calculations and Life Expectancy Calculations

The pay range for this position is $94,875 - $151,800 with anticipated pay for new hires between the minimum and midpoint of the range and could vary above and below the listed range as permitted by applicable law. Pay is based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, location, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Lincoln’s total rewards package for employees.  In addition, the role may be eligible for the Annual Incentive Program, which is discretionary and based on the performance of the company, business unit and individual.  Other rewards may include long-term incentives, sales incentives and Lincoln’s standard benefits package.
