Job description

Client: U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) - California Great Basin Region

Work Location: REMOTE - Must be within 50 miles of a U.S. Bureau of Reclamation office

Reporting Hours: 8am - 5pm, Pacific Standard Time

Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a DOI Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credential and successfully complete a National Agency Check (NAC).

Travel: Occasional travel within California and the western United States to support project meetings, training, field activities, and collaboration with Bureau of Reclamation stakeholders.

Geocgi is seeking a GIS Specialist to support the Bureau of Reclamation's California Great Basin Region Enterprise GIS (BORGIS) program. This role provides geospatial analysis, mapping, spatial data management, and enterprise GIS support for projects involving water resources, engineering, environmental stewardship, land management, emergency planning, and infrastructure. The ideal candidate enjoys working with geospatial technology, solving spatial challenges, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver accurate, reliable, and innovative GIS solutions. This position is fully remote, but you must be located within 50 miles of a U.S. Bureau of Reclamation office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create, edit, maintain, and analyze geospatial datasets using ArcGIS Pro and enterprise GIS technologies.
  • Produce maps, exhibits, reports, and other cartographic products supporting engineering, environmental, scientific, and operational programs.
  • Perform spatial analysis, geoprocessing, and data visualization to support project planning and decision-making.
  • Maintain enterprise geodatabases and ensure the quality, integrity, and accuracy of geospatial data.
  • Publish and maintain web maps, hosted feature layers, and GIS content within ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online.
  • Support GIS data collection, conversion, migration, and integration activities across multiple data sources.
  • Assist with GPS data processing, field data collection, imagery management, and mobile GIS workflows.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control of geospatial datasets and mapping products.
  • Maintain metadata and documentation in accordance with Bureau of Reclamation GIS standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate with engineers, scientists, planners, and project managers to develop GIS solutions that support organizational objectives.
  • Support users by responding to GIS requests, troubleshooting technical issues, and assisting with enterprise GIS workflows.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives and contribute to the continuous modernization of enterprise GIS capabilities.

  • U.S. Citizen
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOI PIV credentials and successfully complete required background investigations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Environmental Science, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline. Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
  • 3+ years of professional GIS experience supporting mapping, spatial analysis, or enterprise GIS operations.
  • Experience utilizing ArcGIS Pro for data editing, cartographic production, and spatial analysis.
  • Experience working with enterprise geodatabases and geospatial data management principles.
  • Experience creating professional cartographic products and technical mapping deliverables.
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS Enterprise or ArcGIS Online.
  • Understanding of coordinate systems, map projections, topology, and geospatial data standards.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently and collaboratively.

The following areย preferredย of the GIS Specialist:

  • Experience supporting the Bureau of Reclamation, Department of the Interior, or other federal agencies.
  • Experience publishing web maps and feature services using ArcGIS Enterprise or ArcGIS Online.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Field Maps, Survey123, QuickCapture, Experience Builder, or Dashboards.
  • Experience utilizing Python, ArcPy, or ModelBuilder for workflow automation.
  • Experience supporting engineering, environmental, water resources, or land management programs.
  • Completion of recent Esri technical training related to ArcGIS Pro, Cartography, Spatial Analyst, Geodatabase Management, or Field Mobility.
  • GISP certification and/or Esri Technical Certification.

The annual base salary range for this position is anticipated to be $80,000 $100,000 USD. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position.
