At BHDP, we believe great design does more than define spaces—it influences behavior, drives performance, and creates meaningful experiences. Guided by our purpose to Inspire People and Impact Results, By Design, we collaborate across architecture, interiors, strategy, and research to solve complex challenges in integrated ways. Here, your ideas matter, your voice is heard, and your work has the power to shape experiences that truly make a difference.
Role Summary
The Interior Designer II supports the design teams through design exploration (furniture, finishes, and equipment), conceptual planning, and Revit production, with increased responsibility for design and technical accuracy, coordination, and independent execution of interior deliverables. This role is ideal for a collaborative, detail-oriented designer who communicates proactively and consistently delivers milestone-ready work.
Responsibilities
- Delivers multiple projects and packages, material palettes, lighting and furniture design and details that are accurate, complete, and on time.
- Maintains quality by coordinating impacts across the project and following QA+QC through confirmed completion, reducing repeat errors and rework, while applying role-appropriate life-safety and HSW diligence and documenting key risks within assigned scope.
- Breaks scope of work into clear assignments with due dates, standards to follow, and a definition of “done,” then follows up to ensure the work is complete, on time, and to BHDP quality expectations.
- Coaches and delegates through actionable markups and short check-ins so the team delivers consistently, increases speed/accuracy and grows independence.
- Identifies coordination, constructability, and code/life-safety issues early and develops viable options/updates tied to Success Criteria, design intent, and other project constraints.
- Escalates higher-risk items appropriately, documents key assumptions and decisions, and applies lessons learned to prevent recurrence through standards aligned solutions.
- Works with others and cooperates effectively across the project team and with consultants by communicating clear status, roadblocks, and next steps with predictable follow-through.
- Provides actionable peer review input and drives assigned-scope review items to confirmed completion, including design intent, constructability, and other project constraints.
- Protects BHDP and the client through integrity and professionalism, including ownership of assigned scope, role-appropriate HSW diligence, and disciplined documentation of key decisions and risks.
- Promotes licensure and credentialing by mentoring others, encouraging progress, and reinforcing appropriate title/use and professional practice.
- Maintains a rolling look-ahead across projects, prioritizes effectively, and keeps assigned scope/deliverables milestone-ready without last-minute delivery.
- Tracks hours-to-plan and escalates scope/schedule risks early—with coordination and clear recovery options—supported by accurate, on-time timekeeping to protect fee and schedule.
