What is remote interior design procurement?

Remote interior design procurement is the process of sourcing, purchasing, and coordinating delivery of furniture, fixtures, and decor items for interior design projects, all managed virtually. Instead of meeting in person, designers and clients communicate online to select products and handle logistics. This approach allows clients to access design expertise and curated products from anywhere, streamlining the process with digital tools and supplier networks. It is especially useful for clients who are not local or have busy schedules, and for designers who want to broaden their reach.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote interior design procurement specialist?

To thrive as a Remote Interior Design Procurement Specialist, you need a solid background in interior design principles, supply chain management, and vendor relations, often backed by a degree in interior design or related field. Familiarity with procurement software, project management tools, and sourcing platforms is essential for efficiently handling orders and logistics. Strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills help you manage client expectations and coordinate with suppliers remotely. These skills ensure timely, cost-effective procurement and seamless project execution, which are critical to client satisfaction and business success.

What are some common challenges faced in remote interior design procurement, and how can they be effectively managed?

One common challenge in remote interior design procurement is ensuring clear communication with vendors and clients when selecting and ordering furnishings or materials. Delays in shipping, miscommunication about product specifications, and coordinating installation schedules across different locations can also present difficulties. These challenges can be managed by using collaborative project management tools, establishing detailed documentation processes, and building strong relationships with reliable suppliers. Proactive communication and regular status updates help keep projects on track and minimize misunderstandings.

About This Role

This is not just a billable position. Niyam is investing in building a formal Maximo practice, and this person will be at the center of that effort.

Your initial engagement will be with FEMA supporting the Lifecycle Process Management System (LPMS), where you will serve as the Senior Solution Architect and primary technical authority. From that delivery foundation, you will grow into broader practice leadership, shaping how Niyam wins, staffs, and delivers Maximo work across the federal civilian market, including DHS and adjacent agencies.

This role is eligible for Niyam's Incentive Compensation Plan (ICP), which rewards contributions to business development capture and program management outcomes.

What You'll Do

Delivery (Primary)

  • Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of IBM Maximo Asset Management (7.6.x) and Maximo Application Suite (MAS) solutions at FEMA and future client engagements.
  • Serve as the technical authority across EAM, system architecture, data architecture, cloud infrastructure, integrations, and application modernization.
  • Collaborate with client stakeholders, project managers, infrastructure teams, and development resources to design scalable, secure, high-performing Maximo solutions.
  • Design and maintain enterprise data models supporting asset management, maintenance, inventory, procurement, and operational workflows.
  • Establish data governance standards, master data management practices, and data quality frameworks across Maximo and integrated enterprise systems.
  • Lead complex data migration, conversion, cleansing, and validation efforts for implementations and upgrades.
  • Architect highly available, scalable, and secure Maximo environments supporting enterprise workloads.
  • Lead integration strategy and implementation between Maximo, financial systems, and other enterprise platforms.
  • Ensure compliance with federal cybersecurity policies, FedRAMP requirements, FISMA, and NIST standards.
  • Mentor and guide administrators, developers, configurators, analysts, and support personnel.
  • Lead architecture reviews, technical design workshops, and solution governance activities.

Practice Building (Growth Path)

  • Support Maximo-related capture efforts by contributing to technical volumes, solution approaches, and proposals in response to federal RFPs and task orders.
  • Help recruit, interview, and onboard Maximo talent to build out the practice team.
  • Develop and refine Niyam's Maximo service offerings, methodologies, delivery frameworks, and reusable proposal collateral.
  • Represent Niyam's Maximo capabilities to current and prospective clients and teaming partners.
  • Contribute to technical roadmaps that position Niyam for growth across DHS and the broader civilian agency market.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • US Citizenship with ability to obtain a Public Trust.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience with IBM Maximo Asset Management and/or Maximo Application Suite implementations.
  • Minimum 5 years in enterprise solution architecture, data architecture, or systems engineering roles.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Maximo architecture, configuration, integrations, security, performance optimization, and system administration.
  • Strong knowledge of EAM, CMMS, maintenance, inventory, procurement, and asset lifecycle management processes.
  • Experience leading large-scale system implementations, upgrades, migrations, and modernization initiatives.
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL, relational databases, data modeling, and enterprise data management.
  • Exceptional analytical, leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Preferred Skills

  • IBM Certified Deployment Professional — Maximo Application Suite.
  • IBM Certified Administrator — Maximo Manage.
  • Expertise in Red Hat OpenShift and cloud-native architectures.
  • Experience with IBM WebSphere, Linux, and enterprise middleware platforms.
  • Knowledge of DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and automation frameworks.
  • Prior federal civilian or DHS delivery experience.
  • Experience contributing to competitive proposals or capture efforts.
  • Experience with Atlassian Jira, Confluence, or similar tools.

What We Offer

  • 100% company-paid health, dental, vision, life, and AD&D insurance.
  • Free short-term and long-term disability coverage.
  • Flexible work hours and remote/hybrid options.
  • Generous paid time off.
  • Retirement plan.
  • Fully paid training and conference opportunities to support your professional growth.
  • Incentive Compensation Plan (ICP) with capture and program management bonuses.
  • A real opportunity to shape a growing practice, not just fill a role.

Application Deadline: This will be posted for a minimum of 2 business days or until a sufficient candidate pool has been collected. Job posting may come down early due to volume of applicants.
