Job description

Predominantly remote position with travel to the Edison, NJ office for the first of training and one week per quarter.

Position Summary:

The Underwriter develops and fosters positive, professional relationships with the company’s agency partners, as well as achieves company growth and profitability objectives. The underwriter is expected to exhibit a medium level of technical expertise, while exercising sound judgment, and delivering consistent results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develops and maintain a strong working knowledge of company underwriting guidelines, coverage forms, enhancements, rating plans, and workflow
  • Determine the acceptability of commercial lines package and umbrella policies based on company underwriting guidelines
  • Uses underwriting information such as inspection reports, claims history, and commercial applications to make appropriate underwriting decision
  • Determine appropriate premium levels and coverages for commercial package and umbrella policies based on filed rates and individual risk characteristics
  • Responsible for maintaining strong business relationships with assigned agencies, which will include agency travel and agency management responsibilities
  • Meet or exceed all company service standards for underwriting and processing commercial lines applications, endorsements, renewal policies, and new business policies
  • Participates in special projects and performs additional duties as required.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelors degree required.
  • Minimum of 4 years commercial multi-line and/or package underwriting experience required; Workers compensation and casualty experience preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft 365 required.
  • Completed or in process of completing a Professional Designation such as CPCU, CIC, ARM, AU preferred.
  • Experience with ImageRight preferred.
Skills:
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills required.
  • Proficient negotiation and analytical skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to exhibit sound judgment and decision making as per company underwriting guidelines and philosophy.

The salary range for this role is $74,600 - $154,600. The listed annual salary range posted for this position is subject to change and may vary depending on performance, education, experience, skills, geographic location, travel requirements, demonstrated proficiency in the competencies required for the role and business needs.  Base pay is just one component of GNY’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards include eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus based on performance.
