New Horizon Counseling Center is seeking a dedicated and experienced Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) to join our team as a Geriatric Mental Health Counselor. In this full-time, remote position, you will focus on providing essential mental health support primarily to senior clients dealing with emotional challenges related to aging, loss, and life transitions. Our standard workweek runs Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. • Conduct thorough mental health assessments for elderly clients to identify their unique emotional and psychological care needs.
• Provide individualized and group counseling sessions to assist seniors dealing with the complexities of aging, loss, and life transitions.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to craft comprehensive care plans that address the holistic needs of geriatric patients.
• Educate family members and staff on effective strategies to promote the emotional well-being of elderly individuals and enhance their overall quality of life.
• Facilitate grief and loss counseling for clients and their families, offering support during sensitive end-of-life situations.
• Design and implement cognitive stimulation programs aimed at improving mental acuity and overall cognitive health for the elderly.

The primary focus of this role is serving the elderly population at our community health clinic, which includes seniors grappling with a range of mental health challenges. You will encounter clients facing issues such as depression, anxiety, grief, and cognitive decline, all of which require specialized care and tailored interventions. This demographic's unique life experiences and concerns will inform your approach as you strive to deliver impactful and empathetic counseling services.

• A Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from an accredited institution.
• A valid and active License as a Mental Health Counselor (LMHC).
• A minimum of four years of direct experience in geriatric counseling and mental health support.
• Demonstrated experience working with elderly individuals who have a variety of mental health needs.

• Additional training or a specialization in aging-related issues and geriatric mental health.
• A solid understanding of evidence-based interventions that effectively promote mental health among elderly clients.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, facilitating effective connections with elderly residents and their families.
• Strong interpersonal abilities, empathy, and sensitivity toward diverse cultures within the older adult population.
• Proficiency in conducting assessments and developing personalized treatment strategies that cater to individual client needs.
• A thorough knowledge of ethical and legal standards in geriatric mental health counseling practice.
