Job description

Introduction
The Department of Corrections is focused on public safety through the custody and supervision of those in our care. The Department of Corrections is recruiting to fill part-time Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber positions. Current vacancies are listed below.

Position Summary
The Nurse Practitioner is an advanced professional nurse who is responsible for the provision of comprehensive care to well and ill incarcerated adult populations. The practitioner demonstrates a high degree of clinical expertise in providing preventive and primary care in the correctional setting. This practitioner educates Persons in Our Care to promote wellness, prevent health problems, maintain current health, and intervene in acute and chronic illness. This practitioner will function independently in managing the direct and indirect care of incarcerated individuals in collaboration with all disciplines employed or practicing at the institutional Health Services Unit. The practitioner will participate in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of care and education programs and protocols used by the health care staff to meet the needs of incarcerated individuals who exhibit health problems across the continuum from prevention to complex medical and/or psychiatric conditions.
Salary Information
This position is in pay schedule and range 11-11 with a starting pay rate of $60.00/hour - $72.87/hour
Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire.

Job Details
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.
The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.
The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
This position is not eligible for remote work.

Fox Lake Correctional Institution- Monday, Tuesday, Friday 8:00am-4:30pm
Waupun Correctional Institution- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8:00am-4:30pm
Qualifications
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Applicants must have a current Wisconsin licensure as a Advanced Practice Nurse-Prescriber or licensed in another state and eligible to obtain Wisconsin licensure by time of appointment. For more information regarding licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber, please click HERE .
  • Applicants must have a valid personal DEA number.
  • Applicants must have and maintain certification in BLS by the American Heart Association and training in the use of the AED and have the ability to perform BLS and/or first aid to prevent loss of life and relieve suffering until appropriate care arrives.
  • Applicants must be enrolled, or be eligible for enrollment, in Wisconsin Medicaid as a provider.
