Job description

Overview

We are seeking a Senior Azure Cloud Engineer to join our team. Our ideal candidate should be based within the Eastern Time Zone (ET). We are open to experienced remote candidates based in an ET location that possess a robust background in cloud security and a strong capability in DevOps practices. This role will focus on developing secure, scalable infrastructure and automating processes to ensure high availability within our Azure environments. You will act as a bridge between security and operations, leading efforts to secure and optimize our systems while ensuring robust observability, monitoring, and proactive incident management. 

Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure and Security Architecture: Design and implement secure, scalable infrastructure in Azure, integrating security best practices across the stack. Manage CI/CD pipelines with a focus on security, including Azure Policy enforcement and VM image hardening.
  • SRE and DevOps Practices: Partner with the infrastructure team to enhance the reliability and performance of our systems. Implement and manage monitoring, alerting, and automation tools to ensure excellent system observability.
  • Incident Response and Resilience: Lead security incident response efforts within the Azure ecosystem. Develop and maintain security incident response playbooks and automate responses to minimize impact and recovery time.
  • Security and Compliance Management: Deploy and maintain tools like Azure Security Center to manage cloud security posture, identify vulnerabilities, and ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards. Implement security policies within CI/CD pipelines to ensure secure software delivery.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, infrastructure, and IT teams to improve security practices across infrastructure and applications. Provide expertise on container security, role management, and policy enforcement within development workflows.
  • Automation and Tooling: Develop automation scripts and workflows using Azure Logic Apps, Azure DevOps, Terraform, and Python to streamline security and operational tasks. Drive initiatives to reduce manual intervention and enhance system reliability and security.

Requirements

  • 8+ years in cloud security and SRE/DevOps roles, with a focus on Azure environments.
  • Strong automation skills with Terraform and Bash scripting; Python and Terragrunt are a plus.
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies, including Docker, Kubernetes, and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
  • Proficiency in Azure technologies, including Azure App Service, Azure Functions, Azure Storage Accounts, Azure API Management, Key Vault, Azure App Configuration, and Logic Apps.
  • SQL and NoSQL knowledge, including Azure SQL, Azure Cache for Redis, and Azure Cosmos DB.
  • Familiarity with Azure Governance, including Blueprints, policies, tagging, cost management, and savings plans.
  • Strong monitoring knowledge, especially in Azure Monitor, Application Insights, and Datadog.
  • CI/CD skills in GitHub Actions and similar technologies.
  • Networking proficiency, including Azure Front Door, Azure WAF, Cloudflare, Azure Firewall, and Azure VNet.
  • Cloud Architecture & Design: Ability to develop secure, scalable, and highly available multi-region Azure cloud solutions aligned with business goals.
  • Knowledge of .NET, Istio, Helm, KEDA, Dapr, and ArgoCD is a plus.
  • Certifications: Preferred certifications include Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert and CKA: Certified Kubernetes Administrator, or similar.
