The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation is a non-profit, volunteer-fueled organization whose mission is to cure Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis and improve the quality of life for the children and adults affected by these diseases. Our work is dramatically accelerating the research process through our varied research initiatives; we also provide extensive educational and support resources for patients and their families, medical professionals, and the public. In addition, we lead federal and state-based advocacy campaigns to support medical research funding and improve patient access to care. Position Summary:

The Web Operations Specialist intern will assist our Web Team in ensuring the operational health of the Foundation's public website. Using the Foundation’s web governance and optimization tools, the intern will identify and recommend content improvements to improve ADA compliance and SEO, help improve the Foundation’s visibility in search engines and AI-powered search experiences through SEO, content optimization, and GEO/AIO practices. The specialist will also make important content and design updates under the direction of the Manager, Webmaster & Content Strategy.
This internship is an opportunity for a talented and motivated individual to gain hands-on experience in website operations, digital strategy, user experience (UX), website accessibility, and website governance. The intern will contribute to meaningful projects that support the Foundation’s mission while developing practical skills applicable to careers in digital marketing and content management.

This is a hybrid internship with 2 days/week in the Foundation's New York City office and the remaining work remote. 20 hours/week are anticipated with a 12-week duration.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Manage and execute a backlog of website enhancements and maintenance tasks, focusing on site health, accessibility compliance, SEO/GEO optimization, content quality, and user experience.
  • Make website content and design updates to key pages according to brief.
  • Research and recommend technical or content, design, and technical improvements to improve SEO and user experience.
  • Assist with wireframing, page layouts, and/or user experience recommendations in Figma, if required.
  • Monitor emerging trends and best practices in website governance, digital strategy, and AI-powered search.

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a degree in Digital Marketing, Communications, Web Design, UX, or a related field preferred
  • Experience with content management systems (CMS), with Drupal as a plus
  • Understanding of website governance, SEO, and digital publishing best practices
  • Enthusiasm for emerging trends in digital strategy (including AI)
  • Familiarity with web analytics platforms such a Google Analytics, GA4, Siteimprove, Conductor or similar tools is a plus
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively within a cross-functional team
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Attention to detail and time management
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
