Remote illustrators are professional artists who create visual artwork, such as drawings, digital illustrations, or graphics, while working from a location outside of a traditional office setting. They use digital tools and software to collaborate with clients, publishers, or companies online. This role allows illustrators to work with clients globally, offering flexibility in both schedule and workspace. Remote illustrators can work on projects like book illustrations, marketing materials, web graphics, and more, often communicating and delivering their work entirely online.

What does a remote illustrator do?

As a remote illustrator, you work from home to design illustrations for a company or organization. You can find illustrator positions that design video game backgrounds, TV or film storyboards, textbook and magazine illustrations, marketing materials, and children's books. Your responsibilities involve creating 2D and 3D images to meet customer expectations. You can complete your duties with images drawn by hand, digital software, or a combination. You communicate with clients to assess their needs, develop drafts for their approval, and complete projects according to an agreed upon timeline. A remote illustrator may work as a full-time employee or as a freelancer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote illustrator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Illustrator, you need strong artistic abilities, a solid understanding of design principles, and a relevant portfolio demonstrating your style and versatility. Proficiency with digital illustration tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop) or Procreate is typically required. Excellent communication, time management, and self-motivation are valuable soft skills for collaborating with clients and meeting deadlines remotely. These skills and qualities ensure you can deliver high-quality artwork efficiently while working independently and maintaining client satisfaction.

How do remote illustrators typically collaborate with clients and team members despite working offsite?

Remote illustrators often use digital communication tools like email, video conferencing, and project management platforms to stay connected with clients and creative teams. They regularly share progress updates, sketches, and final artwork through cloud-based file sharing solutions. Clear communication and responsiveness are essential to ensure that feedback is incorporated efficiently and deadlines are met. Many remote illustrators also participate in virtual meetings or brainstorming sessions to align on project goals and style expectations.

Job description

ABOUT THIS POSITION
As a LX Content Manager, you'll play a central role in helping Aceable students earn their licenses and reach their next life goal by writing and maintaining the course content our students rely on.
We build courses from a library of reusable, linked content and AI-assisted workflows that help our team move faster without sacrificing quality. You'll work within that system daily, using it to draft, adapt, and refine content faster.
This is a writing role, but you'll also bring systems thinking and fluency with AI tools to produce clear, accurate, on-brand learning content efficiently at scale.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Research, write, and maintain original educational course content across Aceable's licensing verticals, following established content templates, style guides, and state-specific playbooks
  • Update and improve existing courses to reflect regulatory changes, quality improvements, and evolving instructional standards
  • Learn and work with Aceable's proprietary course management tools and AI-assisted content workflows to author and manage curriculum.
  • Collaborate with designers on content creation, including infographics, scenario illustrations, animations, and study guides
  • Use and help maintain Aceable's brand voice, tone, and style guidelines across all content you produce
  • Identify opportunities to create great work efficiently, with an eye toward scalability and reuse across states and verticals
  • Work cross-functionally to support content creation for Aceable.com, including articles and landing page copy aligned with our course expertise
  • Participate in editorial review cycles, incorporating feedback from coworkers and stakeholders

WHAT YOU'LL NEED
  • 3+ years of writing and/or content management experience in a consumer-facing, educational, or regulated content environment
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal - you are clear, accurate, and engaging
  • Fluency with AI tools, with a thoughtful sense of how and when to use AI to produce better work more efficiently
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply brand voice, style guidelines, and content frameworks
  • Comfortable working within structured production systems and templates while still bringing creativity to the work
  • Organized and self-directed, with the ability to manage multiple writing projects across different subjects simultaneously
  • Collaborative mindset combined with the ability to work independently on long-term writing projects
  • Systems-oriented thinking - you look for ways to reuse and scale content rather than solving each piece from scratch.

BONUS POINTS
  • Experience with content management systems or course authoring tools
  • Familiarity with instructional design principles or adult learning theory
  • Domain knowledge in any of our verticals: insurance, mortgage, real estate, or drivers ed

ABOUT ACEABLE
Aceable has helped 20 million people get licensed in driver's ed, real estate, insurance, and mortgage. Behind every license is a first car, a new career, a fresh start. Making those moments possible is why we built Aceable.
We're profitable, growing, and investing heavily in AI to make licensing education better. Our courses are mobile-first, fully accredited, and built around one obsessive question: what's the most effective and engaging way to get someone to actually learn this? We're proud that our students consistently outperform competitors on pass rates.
We move fast, ship to real students in weeks, and give our people genuine end-to-end ownership. If you want to build something that directly helps people start new careers (and have fun doing it) you're going to fit right in.
ABOUT THE LEARNING EXPERIENCE TEAM
The Aceable Learning Experience Team is a lively crew of writers, graphic designers, and video producers with a shared mission: we make required licensing education approachable and engaging, and we care obsessively about our results. In close collaboration with the product team, we strive to create effective, user-centric online courses. We learn fast, pivot quickly, and create products to drive the best outcomes for the largest number of students.
ACEABLE PERKS
  • Join one of Austin's Best Places to Work in 2024 & 2025
  • Competitive total rewards (base salary + bonus/stock options, if applicable)
  • 401k match
  • Robust medical, dental, and vision benefits
  • Generous paid time off programs + 19 paid holidays per year
  • Flexible work schedule
  • Wellness programs
  • Our own space on the top floor of a downtown Austin building with free parking
  • Weekly lunch, a fully stocked fridge, and plentiful snacks
  • Company events and activities (holiday events, happy hours, volunteering)
  • #PursueGrowth Reimbursement ($600 per year for full-time employees)
  • Free Roadside Assistance subscription
  • Passionate teammates excited to help you succeed and learn
  • NOTE: Our team is currently working in a hybrid work environment with flexibility to work in office or remote based on role/department and location*

At Aceable we celebrate and support all differences. Aceable is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace. We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital, disability, and veteran status. Even if you don't think you meet every qualification listed, we'd love to review your application!
*Remote Hires I Aceable is only able to hire employees in the following locations: California, Colorado, Illinois, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York (excluding Boroughs), North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, and Washington.
Compensation: $88,000 - $99,000
