Job description

Skillforce is seeking an experienced Sheet Metal Mechanic for commercial HVAC ductwork installation at a large commercial industrial facility in the McLean, VA area. This is a full-time, field-based opportunity supporting a busy mechanical contractor's commercial division with day-to-day fabrication, assembly, and installation of duct systems on an active project site.

If you can pull dimensions off a print, run your own layout, and put up duct that looks like duct, we want to talk.

Pay & Schedule:

  • $35.00 per hour
  • Monday through Friday, day shift
  • 40 hours base, overtime available as the project demands
  • Start date: Tuesday, May 12, 2026
  • Project length: 3 to 6 months

Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and ductwork submittals
  • Lay out, fabricate, and install rectangular and round HVAC duct systems
  • Cut, shape, and join sheet metal using precision hand tools and standard fabrication methods
  • Hang, brace, and seal duct to commercial building components per SMACNA standards
  • Install related components including diffusers, registers, dampers, and flex
  • Coordinate with project foreman and other trades to keep installations on schedule
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all site safety requirements

Qualifications:

Required:

  • 5 or more years of journeyman-level commercial sheet metal experience
  • Ability to read and execute from blueprints and shop drawings independently
  • Proficiency with sheet metal hand tools and fabrication techniques
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen
  • Standard PPE: hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots, gloves

Preferred:

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • Prior experience on commercial industrial sites with security-sensitive access
  • Familiarity with SMACNA standards
  • Welding, brazing, or rigging experience
