Remote Human Test Subject information

What is a remote human test subject?

Remote human test subjects are individuals who participate in research studies, experiments, or product testing from their own location rather than in a laboratory or research facility. They test software, apps, websites, medical devices, or other products and provide feedback on usability, effectiveness, or safety. This role often involves following study protocols, completing surveys, or performing specific tasks online or with provided materials. Remote participation allows researchers to gather data from diverse populations and offers participants the flexibility to contribute from home.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a remote human test subject?

To thrive as a Remote Human Test Subject, you generally need reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to follow instructions, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with basic computer systems, online survey platforms, and video conferencing tools is typically required. Strong communication skills, punctuality, and adaptability help individuals stand out in this role. These skills and qualities are critical for ensuring accurate data collection, effective participation, and smooth coordination with research teams.

What are common challenges faced by remote human test subjects, and how can they be addressed?

Remote human test subjects often face challenges such as maintaining clear communication with research coordinators, adhering to study protocols without in-person supervision, and balancing participation with other personal or professional commitments. To address these, it's important to establish reliable channels of communication, carefully review study instructions, and proactively raise any concerns or difficulties with coordinators. Staying organized and setting reminders for tasks or check-ins can also help ensure smooth participation and compliance with study requirements.

Job description

Project Name:

Consumer Licensing Enquiry Online – Test Analyst

Scope:

Scope of Work – Testing Analyst (CLEO)

The Testing Analyst will provide testing, business readiness, training, and AI-enabled quality assurance services in support of the Consumer Licensing Enquiry Outreach (CLEO) initiative. The resource will support User Acceptance Testing (UAT), enhancement testing, defect management, training material development, deployment readiness, post-implementation stabilization activities, and the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to improve testing, documentation, and knowledge transfer processes.

Services will be delivered in accordance with approved project requirements, ServiceNow stories, acceptance criteria, project schedules, Government of Alberta governance processes, and responsible AI principles. The resource will work collaboratively with Product Owners, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), business stakeholders, and project team members to validate the CLEO solution, support business readiness activities, and ensure users are prepared for operational readiness.

The Testing Analyst will be responsible for developing and executing testing activities, validating business and technical requirements, supporting defect resolution, and creating training and readiness materials that enable successful user adoption. The resource will also identify opportunities to leverage approved AI-enabled tools to improve testing efficiency, documentation quality, training development, knowledge management, and readiness activities while maintaining appropriate human oversight and quality assurance. The resource will support the development and validation of training materials, user guides, job aids, FAQs, training scenarios, and knowledge transfer content, including AI-assisted content creation where appropriate. All AI-generated outputs must be reviewed and validated to ensure accuracy, completeness, accessibility, alignment to approved business processes, and compliance with Government of Alberta standards.

The Testing Analyst will contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by assessing opportunities to use AI-assisted tools to support test case development, test coverage analysis, defect investigation, reporting, documentation, and training preparation. Work is deliverable-based and aligned with approved CLEO testing, training, business readiness, knowledge transfer, and deployment readiness artifacts.

Services are performed within established Government of Alberta project management, testing, quality assurance, privacy, security, accessibility, and governance frameworks. The resource is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing testing and readiness activities required to support successful CLEO implementation and user adoption. This includes supporting the responsible use of approved AI-enabled tools and ensuring all AI-assisted outputs are appropriately reviewed and validated before use.

The resource has no authority for project scope approval, budget approval, solution design decisions, procurement decisions, operational policy decisions, AI governance decisions, or production release sign-off. Engagement is time-bound to CLEO project delivery, testing cycles, training development, business readiness activities, deployment readiness, transition to operations, go-live support, and post-implementation stabilization.

The Testing Analyst is expected to promote continuous improvement and innovation by identifying opportunities to leverage approved AI capabilities to enhance testing effectiveness, training development, knowledge transfer, and operational readiness while ensuring compliance with Government of Alberta policies, governance requirements, privacy obligations, and responsible AI practices.

Duties:

  • Develop, update, and execute test scenarios, test scripts, and test cases aligned with approved business requirements, ServiceNow stories, and acceptance criteria, leveraging approved AI-assisted tools where appropriate to improve test coverage, traceability, and efficiency.
  • Perform User Acceptance Testing (UAT), including functional testing, enhancement testing, regression testing, end-to-end process testing, and retesting activities to validate system functionality and business outcomes.
  • Identify, document, track, and validate defects, including severity assessment, supporting evidence, root cause analysis support, and verification of defect resolution. Utilize AI-enabled tools, where appropriate, to support defect analysis, pattern identification, and documentation activities.
  • Maintain testing documentation, execution records, traceability information, and testing status reports using approved project tools and repositories, while leveraging AI-assisted productivity tools to improve documentation quality and consistency.
  • Support integration testing, data migration validation, and business process validation activities, including the use of AI-enabled tools, where appropriate, to assist in identifying data inconsistencies, process gaps, or testing opportunities.
  • Monitor testing progress and communicate testing risks, issues, dependencies, constraints, and blockers that may impact project timelines or deliverables, utilizing available reporting and analytical tools to support decision-making.
  • Participate in sprint-based and release-based testing activities, including test planning, test execution, defect triage, deployment validation, smoke testing, post-deployment verification, and continuous improvement of testing practices.
  • Develop, update, and maintain training materials and business readiness artifacts, including user guides, quick reference guides, job aids, training presentations, process documentation, knowledge articles, and frequently asked questions (FAQ) content. Leverage approved AI tools, where appropriate, to accelerate content development while ensuring accuracy and quality.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, SMEs, and business stakeholders to ensure training materials accurately reflect approved business processes, system functionality, and user needs.
  • Support training readiness activities by preparing training scenarios, training datasets, demonstrations, user adoption materials, and AI-assisted learning content where appropriate.
  • Facilitate or support knowledge transfer sessions, user walkthroughs, demonstrations, and training sessions as required, including demonstrating effective use of approved AI-enabled capabilities associated with the solution.
  • Validate training materials, AI-generated content, and documented procedures against system functionality, business processes, and approved requirements to ensure accuracy, consistency, accessibility, and usability.
  • Provide support during go-live, business readiness assessments, operational transition activities, and post-implementation stabilization periods, including assisting users with adoption of new business processes, digital capabilities, and approved AI-enabled tools.
  • Identify opportunities to improve testing, training, documentation, and business readiness activities through the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative AI tools, while ensuring compliance with project governance, privacy, security, accessibility, and quality standards.
  • Assess and validate AI-generated outputs used within testing and training activities to ensure content accuracy, relevance, completeness, and alignment with approved business requirements and Government of Alberta standards.
