What is a Remote Home Health RN?

A Remote Home Health RN is a registered nurse who provides patient care, support, and health assessments to individuals in their homes through telehealth or virtual platforms, rather than in-person visits. They coordinate care plans, monitor patient progress, educate patients and families, and communicate with other healthcare professionals using technology. This role allows nurses to deliver high-quality healthcare while working remotely, helping patients manage chronic conditions, recover from illness, or navigate post-hospitalization care.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Home Health RN?

To thrive as a Remote Home Health RN, you need a valid RN license, a solid background in clinical assessment, case management, and experience with home health protocols. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, electronic health records (EHRs), and remote patient monitoring systems is essential. Outstanding communication, self-motivation, and organizational skills are crucial for effectively supporting patients and coordinating care at a distance. These abilities ensure safe, high-quality patient outcomes and efficient remote collaboration in the evolving landscape of home health care.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote Home Health RNs, and how can they be managed?

Remote Home Health RNs often face challenges such as coordinating care across multiple patients and providers, managing documentation efficiently, and ensuring clear communication with both patients and the healthcare team. Working remotely can also make it more difficult to assess patients' environments and needs without in-person visits. To address these challenges, RNs leverage telehealth technology, maintain organized digital records, and establish regular check-ins with both patients and colleagues. Strong self-discipline and proactive communication skills are essential for success in this role.

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) - Part-Time
Remote • Active Maryland PMHNP License Required
We're looking for a part-time PMHNP who wants real clinical collaboration and a schedule that actually fits their life.
Backpack Healthcare provides mental health care for children, teens, and young adults - all online, covered by most insurance. We're clinician-led and minority-owned, and our PMHNPs don't work in isolation. You'll be embedded in an integrated care team alongside therapists, psychiatrists, and care coordinators - all working toward the same kid.
Whether you're supplementing an existing role, balancing family commitments, or transitioning into telehealth - this role is built around flexibility without sacrificing the clinical depth that makes the work meaningful.
What this role looks like
You'll carry a part-time caseload providing comprehensive psychiatric care to children, teens, and young adults via telehealth. Afternoon, evening, and weekend availability is required - that's when families can actually show up.
Day-to-day you'll:
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and formulate evidence-based diagnoses
  • Develop individualized treatment plans in partnership with patients and their families
  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, monitor effectiveness, and adjust as needed
  • Provide brief supportive interventions and psychoeducation alongside medication management
  • Collaborate with therapists, psychiatrists, and care coordinators in regular case reviews
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in our EHR
  • Educate families about diagnoses, treatment options, and what to expect

What we offer
  • Competitive fee-for-service per-session pay
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Medical, dental, and vision (for eligible team members)
  • PTO based on employment status
  • CEU reimbursement
  • Clinical mentorship and case consultation - new graduates are welcome
  • A collaborative team that treats integrated care as the standard, not the exception

What we're looking for
  • Active, unrestricted Maryland PMHNP license (multi-state or compact preferred)
  • PMHNP-BC board certification
  • Active DEA license
  • Master's or doctoral degree from an accredited PMHNP program
  • Experience with or strong interest in working with youth and families
  • Comfortable working independently in a telehealth environment
  • Strong clinical judgment, clear communication, and genuine empathy

Who we are
We've served 12,000+ kids and families since 2020. 78% of families report their child is doing better after three months. We built Backpack because the old model wasn't working - for kids or for the clinicians trying to help them.
When clinicians thrive, kids thrive. That's not a tagline. It's how we build.
Backpack Healthcare is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We celebrate diversity in age, background, identity, and experience - and we mean it.
