What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote high performance computing specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote High Performance Computing (HPC) Specialist, you need expertise in parallel computing, cluster management, and strong programming skills in languages such as Python, C/C++, or Fortran, often backed by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with HPC job schedulers (like SLURM or PBS), cloud platforms, and Linux-based systems, as well as relevant certifications, is highly valuable. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and the capacity to work independently are crucial soft skills in remote environments. These competencies ensure efficient deployment, management, and troubleshooting of complex HPC resources while supporting diverse user needs from a distance.

What is remote high performance computing?

Remote High Performance Computing (HPC) refers to the use of powerful computing resources and clusters that are accessed over the internet or a network, rather than being located locally. This setup allows researchers, engineers, and organizations to perform complex computations, simulations, and data analysis from anywhere, without the need for on-site supercomputers. Remote HPC enables scalability, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness by allowing users to leverage shared resources, often provided by cloud service providers or specialized data centers.

How does a remote high performance computing professional typically collaborate with research teams and IT staff?

Remote HPC professionals often work closely with research scientists, data analysts, and IT administrators to ensure computational resources are efficiently allocated and optimized for large-scale projects. Collaboration usually happens through virtual meetings, ticketing systems, and shared documentation platforms, requiring strong communication and problem-solving skills. Daily tasks may involve troubleshooting user issues, managing job scheduling, and maintaining cluster performance, all while coordinating with geographically dispersed teams. This dynamic environment fosters continuous learning and exposure to cutting-edge scientific and technical applications.

Job description

We're Sharp Performance
Our mission is to extend the service-life and health span of those who run toward danger: law enforcement, firefighters, EMS, and the military community. The people who do this work pay a price for it. Agencies lose their best people to burnout and attrition, and the standard options were never built for the job.
Sharp Performance connects frontline professionals with 1:1 performance coaches through our mobile platform. Our coaches have lived the job. Our methods come from the cognitive performance world of U.S. Special Operations. We built this company from inside the community we serve.
We're backed by Andreessen Horowitz and growing fast, with new agency partnerships signing every month. The standard is high. The mission is clear. If you want your next chapter to serve the people you came from, we should talk.
The Opportunity
You've operated in environments where the margin for error is zero. You've led teams, executed under pressure, and made decisions that mattered. Now you're ready to channel that same discipline and intensity into a role where your earning potential is limited only by your output.
Sharp Performance is hiring Account Executives to drive growth across law enforcement, fire, and first responder agencies. This is a high-performance, high-reward sales role built for operators and first responders who are ready to compete and win in the commercial world. You know this community from the inside. Now help us change it.
What You'll Own
Own a territory of law enforcement and fire agencies. Your job is to open doors, build trust, close deals, and then grow them. You'll move fast, run a real sales process, and be backed by a product that genuinely changes lives in the field.
How You'll Make an Impact
  • Drive New Business: Prospect, qualify, and close new agency accounts across law enforcement, fire, and EMS. This is a hunter role. Activity creates opportunity.
  • Build Relationships That Last: Agencies move on trust. Your credibility as an operator or first responder opens doors that cold calls never will. Leverage it.
  • Consult, Don't Just Sell: Understand what each agency is dealing with: retention, morale, stress, performance, and position Sharp Performance as the solution.
  • Own the Onboarding: Bring new clients in smoothly and set them up for long-term success. Your name is on the account.
  • Use Your Tools: Manage your pipeline in HubSpot, track every opportunity, and report with precision. High performers know their numbers.
  • Expand Your Footprint: Identify upsell and expansion opportunities within accounts. The best AEs don't just close, they grow.

Who We're Looking For
  • Background in Special Operations or First Responser: Former Navy SEAL, Green Beret, Army Ranger, PJ, MARSOC, law enforcement, fire, or EMS. You know this world. That's the edge.
  • Sales Experience: 1-4 years in B2B sales, SaaS, or MedTech preferred. If you're newer to sales but have the background and the hunger, we want to talk.
  • Relentless Drive: You're motivated and understand that your output directly determines your income.
  • Command Presence: You can stand in front of a chief or a sheriff and immediately command respect. You tell compelling stories and make people believe.
  • Physically Capable: This role may involve participating in agency training environments. You should be comfortable in demanding physical settings.
  • Technically Proficient: Comfortable with CRM tools (HubSpot a plus). You track what you manage and manage what you track.

Why You'll Want to Be Here
  • High Earning Potential: Competitive base salary with uncapped commission. Top performers earn significantly above OTE. Your output is your ceiling.
  • Mission That Matters: You're not selling software to a Fortune 500. You're helping protect the mental health of cops and firefighters who need it.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Medical, dental, and vision.
  • Flexible PTO: Recharge and stay sharp, no micromanagement.
  • 401(k) with Company Match: We invest in your future.
  • Performance Coaching: Access to the same elite performance coaches we offer our clients.
  • A Team Built Like You: We're operators, first responders, and high-performers who don't accept average.

The pay range for this role is:
235,000 - 285,000 USD per year (Remote (Los Angeles, California, US))
