Job description

Title: Data Center Commissioning Engineer
Hire Type: Direct Hire
Location: Remote (Preferred near Chicago) with required travel to Chicago during Q4
Compensation: $125,000 - $170,000 annually (based on experience; flexibility available for the right candidate)

Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Data Center Commissioning Engineer to join a growing team focused on delivering high-performance commissioned facilities to clients nationwide. This role will partner closely with project teams to ensure successful project execution, testing, and final turnover of mission-critical data center environments. The ideal candidate will have strong commissioning experience, technical expertise in electrical or mechanical systems, and the ability to lead testing initiatives while working in a remote environment with frequent travel.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with project teams to successfully deliver commissioned buildings and facilities to clients
  • Perform and oversee commissioning activities for electrical and mechanical systems within data center environments
  • Develop and execute performance testing procedures and scripts
  • Coordinate scheduling activities and support facility layout planning
  • Lead and manage small teams of personnel during testing and commissioning execution
  • Interpret and review construction documentation including OPR, BOD, plans, and specifications
  • Support creation of commissioning plans and load bank testing plans (preferred)
  • Maintain project documentation, reports, and communication with internal and external stakeholders
Qualifications:
  • 2โ€“4 years of experience in data center commissioning (electrical or mechanical focus)
  • Experience with performance testing and system validation
  • Ability to write testing procedures and commissioning scripts
  • Strong understanding of scheduling and facility layouts
  • Leadership experience managing small teams in the field
  • Experience developing load bank plans preferred
  • Experience developing commissioning plans preferred
Education & Certifications:
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in a related field OR 5+ years of equivalent experience in MEP construction, commissioning, and project management
  • OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Certification required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred
  • Building Commissioning Certification preferred
Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
Schedule:
  • Remote position with travel requirements
Travel Requirements:
  • 50%โ€“70% travel expected, including required travel to Chicago during Q4
