Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of key activities, including but not limited to:

• Conducting comprehensive intake assessments to identify client needs, utilizing tools such as the GAIN and LOCUS for diagnostic purposes.
• Developing individualized treatment plans tailored to each client's unique challenges, including low self-esteem, family issues, addictions, and crises.
• Providing case management and advocacy services, connecting consumers with essential resources while demonstrating cultural sensitivity.
• Delivering both face-to-face and telehealth counseling sessions to meet clients where they are, ensuring accessibility and convenience.
• Participating in team meetings and interdisciplinary collaboration to stay aligned with best practices and organizational standards.
• Offering crisis intervention and diversion strategies as necessary to stabilize and support clients in distress.
• Maintaining accurate and thorough documentation of client progress and treatment plans in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
• Engaging in ongoing training and supervision to enhance professional skills and ensure adherence to agency requirements.
• Supporting junior therapists and interns through supervision and mentoring, fostering growth within the team.

Patient Population / Client Focus

The Mental Health Counselor will primarily work with a diverse clientele experiencing mental health challenges, including but not limited to anxiety disorders, depression, substance use disorders, and trauma-related issues. Our clients come from various cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, and the counselor will play a vital role in providing culturally competent care to ensure every client feels understood and valued.

Qualifications

Candidates must possess the following qualifications:

• A Master’s Degree in a human services-related field.
• An active license in the District of Columbia as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
• Demonstrated ability to engage in active listening and pay attention to detail.
• Proficient in using Electronic Health Records (EHR) for documenting client interactions and treatment plans.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, both for effective client interaction and accurate documentation.
• Capability to operate both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Effective time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage workload efficiently.

Preferred Experience

While not mandatory, the following experiences may enhance your application:

• Previous experience working in community health settings or similar environments.
• Familiarity with evidence-based therapeutic modalities such as CBT, DBT, or trauma-informed care.
• Experience in crisis intervention techniques and managing crisis situations effectively.

Compensation and Benefits
