These roles require the employer to sponsor the candidate’s H1B visa, enabling skilled foreign workers to work legally in the U.S. Many tech companies offer remote work opportunities due to the growing demand for flexible work arrangements. However, H1B workers must comply with specific work location requirements, and employers must report the employee's work address to USCIS. It's important for both employers and employees to stay updated on H1B regulations regarding remote work.

Red Hawk Technologies

Cincinnati, OH • Remote

Contractor

Posted 12 days ago

Job description

Red Hawk Technologies is a fractional IT consulting firm supporting a diverse portfolio of clients. We're seeking a talented Senior .NET Software Engineer with strong MSSQL database chops to join our team as a contractor.
You'll split your time between building and modernizing .NET web applications and serving as a go-to technical escalation point for complex, high-stakes database issues. You'll collaborate with our fractional team, project managers, and clients directly, translating ambiguous requirements and vague bug reports into clear technical solutions.
You should thrive in high-stakes environments where accuracy is paramount, bring a "first-time right" mindset to production changes, and be comfortable moving between application development and deep database troubleshooting depending on what the day calls for.ResponsibilitiesApplication Development
  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of robust web applications using the .NET framework.
  • Reverse-engineer existing scripts and modernize legacy .NET applications to current .NET Core/8 standards.
  • Design and implement logic for complex data movement jobs, including OCR integration and REST API management.
  • Write clean, scalable, well-documented code in C#, and collaborate with project managers and clients to gather requirements and define specifications.
Database Development & Production Support
  • Diagnose and resolve complex MSSQL performance issues, deadlocks, blocking, failed jobs, data quality problems, and data inconsistencies under tight SLAs.
  • Author, test, and execute production data scripts and complex stored procedures with a target zero-rework/zero-error rate.
  • Design comprehensive, fail-safe rollback scripts and contingency plans prior to deploying any data modification or schema change to production.
  • Build, modify, maintain, and troubleshoot SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports, matrix views, subscription schedules, and complex underlying datasets.
  • Assist in evaluating, converting, and modernizing legacy ETL processes, including PowerShell scripts and MSSQL stored procedures, into the Microsoft Fabric and Azure data ecosystem.
  • Analyze execution plans, indexes, stored procedures, and report queries to refactor inefficient T-SQL code and prevent recurring operational issues.
  • Troubleshoot and debug complex issues across applications and data pipelines to keep systems reliable and performant.
QualificationsMust-Have
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of professional software development experience, including 5+ years with the Microsoft .NET framework (.NET Framework 4.6.2+ and .NET Core/8) and C#.
  • 5+ years of MS SQL Server database development experience, including complex T-SQL (set-based queries, stored procedures, CTEs, dynamic SQL, transactional logic), execution plan analysis, and production support.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell for managing and automating data flows.
  • Proficiency with web technologies such as ASP.NET Core, MVC, and RESTful APIs.
  • Advanced knowledge of explicit transaction management (BEGIN TRAN, COMMIT, ROLLBACK), error handling (TRY...CATCH), and backout script patterns.
  • Proficiency with Git/Bitbucket and modern version control workflows, plus ticket tracking platforms (Jira).
  • Excellent analytical, investigative, and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical diagnostics into plain-language updates for non-technical stakeholders.
Nice-to-Have
  • Practical experience with Microsoft Fabric (Data Factory pipelines, Warehouses/Lakehouses) or Azure Data Factory.
  • Experience migrating legacy SSRS reports or datasets into Power BI / Fabric Paginated Reports.
  • Python experience for file system traversal and data cross-referencing scripts.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure (App Services, Functions, Key Vault) and Azure DevOps or other CI/CD pipelines.
  • Previous experience with healthcare EDI files or billing application integrations.
  • Knowledge of microservices architecture.
  • Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate (DP-600) or Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203).
Location
  • Remote, but USA-based, Eastern or Central Standard Time Zone.

We offer
  • $70 per hour, 1099, long-term contract with the potential for full-time.

Red Hawk Technologies is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for everyone.

Unfortunately, we cannot accept EAD, OPT, OR H1B candidates or those that live outside the United States.
