What is a remote graphics designer?

A Remote Graphics Designer is a creative professional who creates visual content such as logos, advertisements, website layouts, and other digital or print materials while working from a location outside of a traditional office. They use graphic design software to develop engaging visuals based on client needs and communicate with clients and teams through digital platforms. Remote Graphics Designers can work as freelancers or as part of a company’s remote team, often collaborating through email, video calls, and project management tools.

What are some common challenges remote graphics designers face, and how can they overcome them?

Remote graphics designers often encounter challenges such as maintaining clear communication with clients or team members and managing project feedback across different time zones. To overcome these, it's essential to use collaborative tools like Slack or Trello for transparent communication and project tracking. Setting regular check-ins and sharing visual progress updates can help ensure alignment and prevent misunderstandings. Additionally, building a structured routine and dedicated workspace can boost productivity and creativity while working remotely.

How do I find legitimate remote graphics design jobs?

To find legitimate remote graphics design jobs, search on reputable job boards that specialize in creative roles, such as industry-specific websites or well-known general job platforms. Verify the company's credibility, review the job description carefully, and be cautious of jobs that require upfront payments or seem too good to be true. To thrive as a Remote Graphics Designer, you need strong visual design skills, creativity, and proficiency in design principles, typically supported by a degree in graphic design or a related field. Say hello to Hagerty

Hagerty is a company built by drivers for drivers. We put our members at the center of everything we do and are dedicated to making it easier and more enjoyable for enthusiasts to drive and celebrate the machines they love. We're proud to be the world's largest insurer of collectible and enthusiast vehicles and are home to the Hagerty Drivers Club, the world's largest car club. We're committed to Never Stop Driving. Ready to get in the driver's seat? Join us!

As a Product Designer at Hagerty you will play a central role in the way we build products, ensuring our products and features are valuable for people, easy to use, and of the highest level of craft and execution.
Product designers solve big, real-world customer and business problems. We will expect you to show up equipped with your full range of skills across product, interaction, prototyping, and visual design disciplines, while contributing to strategic decisions with product and executive partners.

What you'll do

  • Drive and deliver design projects of large and ambiguous scope.
  • Take broad, conceptual ideas and turn them into something useful and valuable for our members.
  • Drive a partnership with product managers, engineers, and business partners to oversee the user experience of a product from conception through launch.
  • Design flows and experiences that are simple, helpful, and elegant.
  • Design new experiences that evolve and define visual systems.
  • Give and solicit meaningful feedback from design/product teams to continuously improve the quality of your work, and the work of the design team.
  • Contribute to strategic decisions around the future direction of Hagerty products.
  • Willingness to present work to a broader team of product and business leaders, clearly and succinctly articulating goals, customer/business problems, and design concepts.

Minimum qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience building and shipping features or products that are broad/ambiguous in scope and encompass an end-to-end experience across a variety of platforms.
  • Demonstrated interaction design experience with the ability to define how an experience should behave based on understanding people's needs, business objectives, and consideration for how an experience will scale. Use of appropriate prototyping tools to demonstrate how a particular flow or interaction will work.
  • Demonstrated visual design experience with proficiency in typography, desktop/mobile UI, color, layout, iconography and aesthetic sense and how these elements impact product function.
  • Evidence of strategic product thinking with the ability to develop product goals, identify opportunities and make decisions based on the impact on people and the company.
  • BA / BFA in Graphic Design

Preferred

  • Ability to showcase your end-to-end design process across multiple projects, that include interaction and visual design artifacts, multiple iterations, and high-fidelity prototypes.
  • Ability to connect your work with other related initiatives across the company while driving collaboration.
  • Examples of leadership in non-product dimensions that have made the team stronger and positively impacted the work environment.

Other things to note

  • This position is open to U.S. remote work. However, team members who reside within 20 miles of the Traverse City headquarters will follow a hybrid schedule, working from the office three days per week.
  • Familiarity with public company requirements, including Sarbanes Oxley and key regulations, if applicable. For SOX compliant roles, responsible for designing, executing, and documenting internal controls where they have been identified as owners to prevent errors in financial reporting, processes, and business operations. Including attestation to the completeness, accuracy, and compliance of all financial reporting data, where applicable.
