LaunchCode is seeking an experienced Director of Finance to lead the full scope of our financial operations. This is a senior, high-trust role that combines direct execution of complex financial work with formal leadership over a team of finance staff. The ideal candidate brings both technical depth and operational discipline. They are equally comfortable resolving a multi-state payroll tax issue, coordinating an external audit, and clearing a high volume of AP approvals, often on the same day. They are a calm, clear communicator who earns the trust of staff, leadership, and external partners alike.

Role Responsibilities
  • Program Financial Operations: Oversee AR for job placement revenue, donations, grant invoicing, bill rate controls, and SOW/MSA review for employer clients.
  • Financial Planning & Analysis: Develop budget vs. actual reporting, support grant budget revisions, and maintain a recurring operational finance cadence with leadership.
  • Multi-State Payroll & Tax Compliance: Manage payroll cycles, retroactive corrections, garnishments, multi-jurisdictional tax filings, and state agency correspondence.
  • Accounts Payable & Expense Management: Serve as final approver for all vendor payments, corporate card transactions, and benefits-related disbursements. Design and maintain AP workflow infrastructure.
  • Accounting & Month-End Close: Lead monthly close across multiple legal entities - bank reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and complex revenue recognition determinations.
  • Annual Audit & Regulatory Fillings: Primary internal contact for financial statement and annual audits. Prepare all schedules, manage auditor requests, and oversee project management.
  • Vendor & Contract Management: Own the SaaS/vendor renewal lifecycle and draft or finalize MSAs and contractor agreements for employer partners and independent contractors.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field
  • CPA license or active CPA candidacy strongly preferred
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, with at least 3 years in a senior individual contributor or people leadership role
  • Demonstrated experience managing full-cycle payroll for a multi-state employer, including corrections, tax compliance, and platform administration
  • Proficiency with a cloud-based accounting platform (QuickBooks or equivalent), a bill payment platform, and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience coordinating external financial statement audits, including direct preparation of audit schedules during testing
  • Experience managing multi-state payroll tax filings and responding to state agency correspondence
  • Strong process design and documentation skills with a track record of building or improving financial workflows

Nice to haves
  • Prior experience in a nonprofit organization, including grant accounting, restricted fund management, and Form 990 coordination
  • Experience drafting or reviewing Master Service Agreements, Statements of Work, or vendor and client contracts
  • Prior exposure to multi-entity accounting environments and government grant invoicing
