What are some common challenges faced by Remote Graduate Game Developers, and how can they be overcome?

Remote Graduate Game Developers often face challenges such as staying motivated without in-person supervision, communicating effectively with distributed teams, and quickly adapting to new tools or workflows. To overcome these challenges, it's important to establish a regular work routine, actively participate in team meetings, and seek feedback frequently. Utilizing collaboration platforms, maintaining clear documentation, and reaching out for mentorship can also help new developers thrive in a remote setting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Graduate Game Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Graduate Game Developer, you need a solid understanding of programming languages (such as C++ or C#), game design principles, and a relevant degree or portfolio showcasing your work. Familiarity with industry-standard game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine, version control systems (e.g., Git), and possibly Agile development methodologies is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and the ability to collaborate remotely distinguish top candidates. These skills ensure you can contribute to complex projects, adapt to evolving technologies, and succeed in a distributed team environment.

What is a Remote Graduate Game Developer?

A Remote Graduate Game Developer is an entry-level professional who has recently completed a degree in game development or a related field and works from a remote location, rather than in a traditional office setting. They assist in designing, coding, and testing video games under the supervision of more experienced developers. This role allows graduates to gain industry experience, collaborate with distributed teams, and contribute to various stages of game production while working from home or another remote environment.

Job description

Description

About 160 Driving Academy

160 Driving Academy is the largest CDL training school in the country,14 years strong, 90+ locations across 32 states, and roughly 20,000 students earning their commercial driver's license with us every year. We graduate at an 88% first-time pass rate because we take the work personally. Behind every one of those graduates is a working adult who bet on themselves, and behind every one of those outcomes is a platform that had to work.

The Role

When a student enrolls at 160 Driving Academy, a chain of events has to happen, drug test scheduled, DOT physical confirmed, permit application tracked, class attendance monitored, job placement coordinated, and a CDL handed over at the finish line. Right now, many of those steps involve manual handoffs and disconnected systems. Your job is to change that. As our Salesforce Engineer, you will build and maintain the integrations and automations that connect our student lifecycle, from enrollment to graduation, inside Salesforce. You'll work with our Student Success, Admissions, Compliance, and Operations teams to eliminate friction, surface the right data at the right time, and make sure nothing falls through the cracks for the 20,000 students moving through our programs every year.

  Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $90,000 - $120,000 per year, commensurate with experience

Health, vision, and dental insurance

Paid time off and paid holidays

Currently fully remote; may transition to hybrid in the future

Key Responsibilities

Build and maintain integrations that power the student lifecycle, drug test scheduling, DOT physical tracking, permit applications, attendance monitoring, curriculum adherence, and job placement coordination

Design, develop, and deploy Apex, Lightning Web Components (LWC), Flows, and automations that reduce manual work for our Student Success and Admissions teams

Connect Salesforce to third-party systems and vendor platforms via REST/SOAP APIs and platform events

Partner with Student Success, Operations, and Compliance stakeholders to translate real workflow pain points into clean technical solutions

Own data quality and pipeline health, if the data in Salesforce is wrong, student outcomes suffer

Troubleshoot and resolve production issues quickly; a blocked integration can mean a missed drug test or a delayed enrollment

Stay current with Salesforce releases and proactively recommend features that improve advisor efficiency or student visibility

Why 160 Driving Academy

We train the people America runs on. The work you build here, the integrations, the automations, the data pipelines, directly determines whether a student gets their CDL or falls through the cracks. That's a meaningful problem to solve, and we're investing in the people solving it well.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

3-5 years of dedicated Salesforce development experience

Salesforce Certified Administrator (required)

Software development background preferred (any language or platform)

Strong proficiency in Apex, SOQL, LWC, and Salesforce declarative tools

Experience with Salesforce integration patterns (REST, SOAP, Platform Events, Change Data Capture)

Solid understanding of Salesforce security model, governor limits, and best practices

Strong communication skills and ability to work independently in a remote setting

Preferred Qualifications

Salesforce Certified Platform Developer I, II, or other Salesforce certifications

Experience with Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, or Education Cloud

Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tools (Salesforce DX, Copado, Gearset)

Experience in a high-growth, multi-location services company
