To thrive as a Remote Graduate Game Developer, you need a solid understanding of programming languages (such as C++ or C#), game design principles, and a relevant degree or portfolio showcasing your work. Familiarity with industry-standard game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine, version control systems (e.g., Git), and possibly Agile development methodologies is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and the ability to collaborate remotely distinguish top candidates. These skills ensure you can contribute to complex projects, adapt to evolving technologies, and succeed in a distributed team environment.

Job description

Are you on a mission to create games that bond players together into deeply invested communities? Would you like to work on something comedic with lighthearted and whimsical characters? Do you enjoy the challenge of solving complex, non-deterministic problems with simple, pragmatic solutions?

As a Senior Services Engineer at teamLFG, you will drive the development of the orchestration system that coordinates our global fleet of containerized game servers, from requirements gathering and architectural planning to implementation and scaling. Most importantly, you will work with a fun, dedicated, and passionate cross-discipline team devoted to turning a creative dream into a new franchise at PlayStation.

We look for candidates who value joining a mission-focused team with a diverse set of backgrounds, experiences, interests, and viewpoints.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and maintain production-quality backend game orchestration services, including dynamic resource allocation, monitoring, and security

  • Collaborate daily with a cross-disciplinary team to design the interface between the orchestration system, matchmaking systems, and internal developer experience

  • Effectively write clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation and email communication, with the ability to summarize complex topics and achieve alignment across multiple teams

  • Calmly deal with production incidents, participating in an on-call rotation after launch

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Production experience designing and building backend services

  • Ability to communicate with customers of different technical and non-technical backgrounds to help them navigate technology and achieve their goals

  • Experience with orchestration technologies (e.g., Agones, Kubernetes, AccelByte, Playfab), knowing when (and when not) to reach for them

  • Ability to write, debug, and maintain code in Rust

  • Strong knowledge of Docker, Git, and Linux (including shell scripting and system configuration)

  • Embrace a "we" culture in addition to being an outstanding collaborator and communicator

NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS

  • Experience with "games as a service" online game development

  • Experience with multiple cloud providers and infrastructure-as-code systems like Terraform and Ansible

  • Experience with Unreal Engine
