You will serve as a PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN (INSTRUCTOR) in the Radiological Support Division, Radiological Control Office of PSNS and IMF.

Duties
Help

• You will develop, administer, and review course materials, training aids, and qualification examinations involving radiological control requirements.
• You will survey naval nuclear propulsion program work to assure radiological control training materials and qualification examinations reflect current practices and procedures.
• You will act as a major radiological control representative in dry-run planning, practice, or mock-up sessions in preparation for major repairs and overhauls or refueling operations.
• You will review radioactivity control-related plans and procedures to assure that radiological controls are adequate for anticipated and actual on-the-job conditions.
• You will assure adherence to radiological control requirements for assignments which involve numerous processes in several high skill level trades (for example, pipefitting, welding, machining, and rigging).
• You will recommend changes to work plans and trades procedures to improve radiological controls, correct deficiencies, increase efficiency, minimize exposure to radiation, and prevent nuclear incidents.
• You will determine and execute appropriate actions to contain and control radiation, control effects, and control all personnel movement in area.

• You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications
For the GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: analyzing nuclear propulsion plant work to identify discrepancies and develop new methods or procedures to maintain radiation and radioactivity control levels.
For the GS-10: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: monitoring nuclear propulsion plant work to assess radiological control methods and procedures for deficiencies or non-compliance to recommend corrective action.

This position requires rotating shift work.
This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
PPP applicants will be placed at the FPL, if determined Well Qualified (WQ). To receive priority consideration, the FPL must be the same grade level or equivalent of the retained grade or the grade held immediately prior to separation.
