Artificial Intelligence and Optimization Engineer
The Opportunity:
As an experienced engineer, you know that AI is critical to understanding and processing massive datasets. Your ability to conduct statistical analyses on business processes using AI/ML techniques makes you an integral part of delivering a customer-focused solution. We need your technical knowledge and desire to solve problems to support the advancement of AI within the Department of War (DoW).
In this role, you'll own and define the direction of mission-critical solutions by applying best-fit AI/ML algorithms, optimization models and technologies. You'll be part of a talented team of engineers across the company and collaborate with business and technical leaders to deliver world-class AI solutions that solve our nation's toughest and hardest problems. Your skills and extensive technical expertise will guide our DoW customers as they navigate the landscape of AI/ML algorithms, tools, and frameworks.
What You'll Work On:
  • Design and implement AI-enabled decision support capabilities, including forecasting, optimization, natural language interfaces, and intelligent workflow automation.
  • Implement pipelines on AWS GovCloud using SageMaker, Step Functions, and Databricks ML Runtime.
  • Build and maintain PySpark and Delta Lake pipelines within a medallion architecture.
  • Develop feature stores aligned to governance standards and perform data profiling and quality validation consistent with government data standards.
  • Maintain model bias assessments and explainability documentation for all production models.
  • Implement model monitoring frameworks for concept drift, data drift, and performance degradation.
  • Produce artifacts and monthly model performance reports in accordance with approved formats.
  • Collaborate with requirements owner and partner agencies to translate mission requirements into model specifications.
  • Coach and mentor junior engineers.

You Have:
  • 5+ years of experience designing, developing, validating, and deploying supervised and unsupervised AI/ML and optimization models delivering in enterprise production environments
  • 5+ years of experience in Python such as scikit-learn, XGBoost, PyTorch, or TensorFlow, PySpark, and SQL
  • Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in a Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or Engineering field

Nice If You Have:
  • Experience with Databricks and Palantir products
  • Experience operating within FedRAMP-authorized cloud environments
  • Experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, and CI/CD pipelines such as GitLab CI or AWS CodePipeline
  • Experience with federal or government technology, data, and model standard such as CMMC or RMF
  • Experience with prompt engineering and RAG architecture
  • Knowledge of large language model (LLM) deployment patterns in air-gapped or restricted network environments
  • TS/SCI clearance
  • Master's degree
  • AWS Certified Generative AI Developer - Professional, AWS Certified Machine Learning Engineer, Databricks Certified Professional, or equivalent vendor Certification

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $99,000.00 to $225,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen's total compensation package for employees.
