Job description

Location: Central Falls, RI Salary: $130,000.00 USD Annually - $150,000.00 USD Annually Description:
Location: Remote-commutable preferred. Candidates within roughly 100-150 miles who can occasionally travel onsite for major meetings are ideal.
Overview This is a newly established AI function, and this hire will be the first technical lead on the team. The organization is looking for someone who can help mature its AI environment from the ground up-establishing standards, shaping the technology stack, and driving prototyping and pilot efforts.
The role involves significant experimentation and rapid prototyping, with an understanding of financial impacts and long-term sustainability. Experience with Google Cloud Platform or Vertex AI is beneficial but not required.
Higher-education experience is not necessary. Candidates who have previously built or matured AI environments-whether in academia or industry-are highly attractive. However, individuals coming from extremely fast-paced, high-pressure environments (e.g., large tech companies known for intense operational tempo) may find the culture here more balanced and should be comfortable working in a setting that values work-life balance.
Position Purpose
The AI Solutions Architect will serve as the technical lead for implementing AI-driven systems. This role will explore, evaluate, and prototype a range of AI and automation technologies to determine their fit for organizational needs. The architect will establish best practices for AI development and collaborate closely with the Director of AI & Business Enablement to translate complex business challenges into scalable, secure technical architectures.
Major Responsibilities
Solution Design & Implementation (45%)
  • Translate documented business requirements into technical architecture and design specifications.
  • Provide technical feasibility assessments during project intake.
  • Develop proof-of-concept prototypes to validate approaches and demonstrate value.
  • Lead technical design for solutions such as LLM applications, workflow automation, AI agents, and process-optimization tools.
  • Architect end-to-end AI solutions, including RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), agentic workflows, and API integrations with enterprise systems.
  • Document technical specifications and implementation plans.
  • Transition projects from pilot to production by designing scalable infrastructure and long-term support models.
Technical Governance & Security (15%)
  • Partner with security, architecture, and infrastructure teams to ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and alignment with organizational technology standards.
Technology Evaluation (15%)
  • Stay current with rapidly evolving AI technologies and best practices.
  • Assess and recommend LLMs, data storage options, and automation/agentic platforms to build a sustainable AI technology stack.
Technical Mentorship (15%)
  • Establish development standards and best practices for AI initiatives.
  • Provide technical guidance to team members and staff involved in AI projects.
  • Oversee student or junior employees as needed.
Stakeholder Consultation (10%)
  • Participate in workshops with internal departments to assess needs and evaluate technical feasibility.

Key Qualifications & Competencies
Education & Experience
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 5-7 years in solution architecture, software development, integration, business intelligence, or related technical roles.
  • Hands-on experience with AI/ML technologies, especially large language models, prompt engineering, or AI application development through project work or rapid prototyping.
  • Experience designing or administering enterprise solutions; experience in complex organizational environments preferred.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and iterative delivery preferred.
Technical Skills
  • Strong understanding of AI/ML concepts, especially LLMs and prompt engineering.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python).
  • Understanding of data privacy, security, and compliance considerations in AI applications.
  • Experience with API consumption and integration (REST, JSON, webhooks) preferred.
  • Experience with automation platforms or workflow tools-ranging from low-code/no-code (Power Automate, Zapier, n8n, IFTTT, Excel macros) to developer-centric automation (GitHub Actions, Python scripts).
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive design principles preferred.
Professional Skills
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to translate complex challenges into actionable solutions.
  • Intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm for learning emerging technologies.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to document technical decisions and processes.
  • Collaborative mindset and comfort working in cross-functional teams.
  • Self-directed with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Customer-focused approach with a commitment to delivering value.
