What is a Remote GitOps Engineer?

A Remote GitOps Engineer is a software professional who manages and automates infrastructure and application deployments using GitOps principles, typically while working from a remote location. GitOps is a methodology that uses Git repositories as the single source of truth for declarative infrastructure and applications. The engineer is responsible for implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting continuous deployment pipelines, ensuring that changes are version-controlled and auditable. They often work with tools like Kubernetes, ArgoCD, and Flux, collaborating with development and operations teams to streamline DevOps workflows.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote GitOps Engineer?

To thrive as a Remote GitOps Engineer, you need a strong background in software development, infrastructure-as-code, and experience with cloud platforms, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Git, and CI/CD systems, along with certifications such as CKA or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, is highly valuable. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and self-motivation are key soft skills for collaborating remotely and managing complex workflows. These skills ensure efficient, reliable, and scalable deployment pipelines, enabling teams to deliver software securely and quickly in distributed environments.

How does a Remote GitOps Engineer typically collaborate with development and operations teams to ensure smooth deployment processes?

As a Remote GitOps Engineer, you'll frequently collaborate with both development and operations teams through tools like Git, Slack, and video conferencing. Your main responsibility is to ensure deployment pipelines are automated and transparent, often acting as a bridge between developers writing code and operations teams managing infrastructure. Regular communication and documentation are crucial to resolve issues quickly and keep everyone aligned. You will also participate in code reviews, incident response, and infrastructure improvements, ensuring deployments are reliable and reproducible across distributed teams.

What is the difference between Remote Gitops Engineer vs Cloud Engineer?

About MediStreams

MediStreams is a healthcare revenue cycle management company that specializes in automating payment posting and reconciliation. Our proprietary technology and integration capabilities help healthcare providers streamline their financial operations, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.

Position Summary

The Senior DevOps Engineer is responsible for designing, maintaining, and continuously improving the infrastructure that powers MediStreams' healthcare payment automation platform. This role serves as the bridge between Development and Operations, ensuring applications are deployed securely, reliably, and efficiently while maintaining the scalability and resilience required in a healthcare environment.

Working closely with Engineering, Product, and external infrastructure partners, you'll lead the evolution of our container platform, automate deployment pipelines, champion Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and GitOps methodologies, and strengthen the reliability of our cloud-native environment. This role is ideal for an experienced DevOps professional who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges, automating repetitive processes, and enabling engineering teams to deliver software with confidence.

Key Responsibilities

You'll:

  • Manage and optimize MediStreams' container platform by maintaining, securing, and scaling our OpenShift (Kubernetes) environments to ensure availability, performance, and reliability.
  • Monitor infrastructure health and system performance by proactively identifying issues across networking, storage, workloads, and resource utilization while implementing timely resolutions.
  • Manage containerized workloads by building, maintaining, and optimizing Docker images to ensure secure, reproducible, and production-ready deployments.
  • Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines by automating build, testing, and deployment workflows through GitHub for Java and Python applications.
  • Champion GitOps methodologies by managing declarative infrastructure and application deployments while maintaining environment configurations through version control.
  • Collaborate with Development teams by streamlining deployment workflows, resolving pipeline issues, and reducing the time between code commits and production releases.
  • Support software build and dependency management by maintaining Maven-based workflows and optimizing build processes.
  • Provision and maintain cloud infrastructure by implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices that improve consistency, scalability, and repeatability across environments.
  • Develop automation solutions by creating tooling and scripts in Python that reduce manual effort and improve operational reliability.
  • Strengthen infrastructure security and compliance by supporting healthcare security requirements, access controls, auditability, and the secure handling of sensitive information.
  • Partner with internal teams and external vendors by coordinating infrastructure initiatives, troubleshooting complex issues, and ensuring operational alignment.
  • Document infrastructure and operational procedures by maintaining runbooks, deployment documentation, and technical standards that support long-term knowledge sharing.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to automate processes, improve deployment velocity, strengthen platform resilience, and adopt emerging DevOps best practices.
  • Support additional engineering and infrastructure initiatives as needed by contributing to strategic projects, production support, and evolving business priorities.

Qualifications & Requirements

You're a great fit if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field (required)
  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Platform Engineering, or a similar role
  • Hands-on experience administering Kubernetes environments, with OpenShift experience strongly preferred
  • Proven experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitHub and GitOps methodologies (ArgoCD experience is a plus)
  • Strong proficiency with Docker, Maven, Java, and Python
  • Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using technologies such as Terraform, Helm, or Ansible
  • Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure, networking, security, and container orchestration
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams
  • Experience working within healthcare, financial services, or other regulated industries is preferred

Why Join MediStreams?

As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you'll play a critical role in building and maintaining the infrastructure that powers MediStreams' healthcare automation platform. This is a unique opportunity to influence the reliability, scalability, and security of systems that process critical healthcare payment data while partnering closely with Engineering leadership to shape our cloud-native future.

In this role, you'll enjoy:

  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package (health, dental, vision, 401(k), PTO, and more)
  • The opportunity to architect and improve modern Kubernetes-based infrastructure and deployment pipelines
  • Collaboration with a highly technical Engineering team that values automation, innovation, and operational excellence
  • Exposure to cutting-edge cloud technologies, DevOps tooling, and Infrastructure as Code practices while helping shape the future of MediStreams' platform
