Job Description:
The Opportunity
As a Field Service Engineer supporting Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), you work directly at customer substations and power facilities across the United States, providing technical support throughout all phases of project execution, including installation, commissioning, testing, acceptance, and handover. This is a US-based field service role focused on hands-on engineering work with High Voltage GIS equipment in active operating environments. You support multiple customer sites based on service demand, troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues, and coordinate on-site activities to ensure safe and reliable operation of critical power infrastructure. Your work contributes to grid reliability, safety, and modernization across the US transmission and substation landscape, while offering broad exposure to GIS systems and customer-facing service work within the power industry.
How You'll Make an Impact
  • Provide technical support throughout all phases of GIS project execution, including installation, commissioning, testing, acceptance, and handover
  • Provide on-site supervision for the installation and commissioning of GIS substations
  • Manage troubleshooting efforts involving field personnel and subcontractors
  • Support and oversee contracted maintenance activities to ensure work is completed effectively
  • Maintain detailed site documentation, including operational procedures, performance reports, test data, and equipment manuals
  • Coordinate and communicate with internal teams, subcontractors, and customers to support smooth site execution
  • Work closely with customers on-site to support service outcomes and satisfaction
  • Ensure proper use and care of tools, equipment, vehicles, materials, and supplies at job sites
  • Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your Background
  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
  • 2-5 years of proven experience in technical field service work.
  • Technical diploma/degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) preferred. Trade education and experience in Industrial Mechanic and Electrical fields will be considered.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical skills.
  • Experience leading crews on electrical projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret contracts, specifications, and technical drawings.
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and test equipment software.
  • Able to travel up to 80%, including to Canada and Mexico.
  • Valid US driver's license.
  • Fluent in English.

Pay Transparency Statement (Massachusetts)
The salary range for this position is $81,700 - $102,100 per year. This range represents the pay that the Company reasonably and in good faith expects to offer for this position in Massachusetts. Actual compensation will be based on factors such as relevant experience, education, skills, and internal equity.
