One of our clients, a well-established and fast-growing region leader in the Waste Management and Recycling industry, has retained us to find a great IT leader for their CIO position. The CIO will be leading and growing the existing IT organization of 10+ FTEs plus contractors, and will and be actively participating in the architecture and deployment of their strategic IT programs. This is an outstanding opportunity to join one of the fastest growing companies in their sector; a half billion-dollar company with 1.3K employees looking to double in size over the next five years.

The Role

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) will play a crucial role in leading the strategic planning and implementation of information technology systems and processes. You will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective use of technology to drive business growth, improve operational efficiency, and enhance customer satisfaction.

  • Develop and implement IT strategies aligned with the company's goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with senior management to identify opportunities for leveraging technology to gain a competitive edge in the waste industry.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the company's IT infrastructure, including hardware, software, networks, and telecommunications systems. Ensure the availability, security, and scalability of IT resources.
  • Lead establishment and maintenance of robust data management systems and processes.
  • Develop data governance policies and practices to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and security. Leverage data analytics to drive insights and make informed business decisions.
  • Drive digital transformation initiatives across the organization. Identify and implement innovative technologies and solutions to streamline operations, improve productivity, and enhance the customer experience.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive cybersecurity program to protect the company's IT assets, including data, networks, and systems.
  • Implement risk management strategies to mitigate IT-related risks and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Collaborate with external vendors and technology partners to evaluate, select, and manage IT solutions and services.
  • Negotiate contracts and ensure service level agreements are met.
  • Build and lead a high-performing IT team. Provide guidance, coaching, and mentorship to team members.

  • Develop and manage the IT budget, ensuring cost-effective utilization of resources.

Qualifications

  • Must have 10+ years experience in the IT industry or data management -- ideally working in one of these industries: waste management, environmental services, manufacturing, or trucking/transportation.
  • Must have 8+ years IT management/leadership experience
  • Must have experience in strategizing and hands-on in architecting enterprise applications (ERP, CRM). Must also have good experience with IT infrastructure, security, and business transformation.
  • Must have good experience in supporting M&A due diligence, and handling post acquisition integration of people, processes, and IT systems/platforms.
  • Must be on-site in South Florida (this is not a hybrid or remote role).
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer or software engineering, or information systems; MBA or other master’s level degree is a plus
