Job description

ICF is seeking a Florida-licensed Professional Geologist On-Call to join our Environment & Planning team. This role involves the application of geologic principles and interdisciplinary scientific knowledge to support environmental planning projects and resource evaluation, primarily performing Oil, Gas, and Mineral (OGM) assessments for less-than-fee easement acquisitions.

You will contribute to technical analyses that inform responsible land and resource use while helping clients navigate complex environmental and regulatory challenges.

About On-Call Employment with ICF: Due to the seasonal or project-specific nature of our environmental, disaster and emergency management work, ICF hires professionals as "On-Call" employees. On-Call employees are scheduled for work as it becomes available, with the freedom to accept or decline hours. They can work on concurrent projects outside of their ICF assignment, provided there's no conflict of interest.

You'll work alongside a skilled team of environmental planners, regulatory experts, compliance specialists, biologists, and aquatic resource specialists. This position is based in Florida, with flexibility for remote or hybrid work within the state.

What You'll Do

  • Perform Oil, Gas, and Mineral (OGM) assessments to evaluate the presence, quality, and/or development potential of mineral resources (for both energy and non-energy resources) that underlie properties considered for less-than-fee acquisitions (agricultural/rural or conservation easements)
  • Evaluate information from the oil and gas permitting database and mines database maintained by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), and local and regional geologic maps, nearby lithologic boring reports, and other geologic data maintained by the DEP-Florida Geological Survey (FGS)
  • Prepare a brief technical report summarizing the OGM assessment, including a GIS map exhibit (prepared by you or a GIS analyst) and supplementary information such as well-borehole data
  • Perform other geology-related tasks on an as-needed basis in support of the Environment & Planning (E&P) Division
  • Collaborate with project managers, technical specialists, and regulatory stakeholders

Must Have Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Earth Science, or a closely related field.
  • 5+ years of verified geological work experience in applying geologic principles to environmental, natural resource, and other projects requiring geologic assessments.
  • A current, active Florida Professional Geologist (PG) license.
  • 1+ years of experience in analyzing geologic, soil, and/or groundwater data to support technical reporting.
  • 1+ years of experience in preparing technical documents, reports, or environmental assessments.
  • 1+ years of experience using standard geologic or environmental data analysis methods and tools.

  • Experience supporting projects conducted under Florida environmental regulations
  • Experience working on multidisciplinary environmental or infrastructure projects
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines
  • Proficiency with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro)

The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:
