Remote Genomics information

What are common challenges in remote genomics?

Professionals in Remote Genomics roles often encounter challenges related to managing large datasets securely, ensuring seamless communication across dispersed teams, and keeping up with rapidly evolving analytical tools. Working remotely requires strong self-discipline and proactive collaboration through digital platforms to ensure project milestones are met. Additionally, handling sensitive genomic data means adhering to strict data privacy and compliance standards. However, many organizations offer robust onboarding, regular virtual meetings, and access to technical support to help overcome these challenges.

What skills and qualifications are needed for remote genomics?

Succeeding in Remote Genomics requires a solid background in genetics, molecular biology, bioinformatics, or a related field, often supported by a relevant degree or research experience. Familiarity with industry-standard tools like Python/R for data analysis, genome sequencing platforms (e.g., Illumina), and experience with cloud-based collaboration systems is typical. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and clear remote communication are crucial soft skills for managing complex data and working across distributed teams. These qualifications ensure accuracy in genomic research, effective collaboration, and successful project delivery in a remote work environment.

What is a remote genomics?

A Remote Genomics job involves analyzing genetic data, conducting bioinformatics research, and interpreting genomic insights while working from a remote location. Professionals in this field use computational tools to study DNA, identify genetic variations, and apply findings to healthcare, agriculture, or biotechnology. Roles may include bioinformaticians, geneticists, or data scientists collaborating with research institutions, healthcare organizations, or biotech companies. Strong skills in programming, data analysis, and genetics are essential. Remote work allows flexibility but requires self-discipline and effective communication with teams.

Remote within USA

Overview
As a LIMS Consultant on our Professional Services team, you’ll play a key role in supporting customers post-sale, with a focus on implementing our next-generation LIMS platform, Labbit. Drawing on your expertise in laboratory science and informatics, you’ll serve as a dedicated consultant, working directly with customers to understand their needs, configure solutions, and ensure the successful implementation and adoption of our product.

This role spans consultation, requirements gathering, documentation, LIMS configuration, validation testing, support ticket resolution, and light project management. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally with our implementation and customer success teams to deliver high-quality solutions tailored to each customer’s unique workflows. In some cases, you may also support customer projects outside of Labbit. To succeed in this role, you should thrive on becoming a reliable partner to our customers while managing smooth, high-quality implementations.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team that’s passionate about helping labs accelerate innovation through thoughtful software implementation and expert support. We’re excited to connect with candidates seeking a highly collaborative role at the intersection of science and technology.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary scientific and technical contact for customers during implementation projects
  • Utilize technical and domain expertise to understand client needs and translate them into solution designs, software requirements, and implementation plans
  • Create scope estimates and/or feature development requests for Implementation teams
  • Configure LIMS to meet user requirements
  • Create test plans and execute testing to ensure that the configured system meets client needs
  • Lead project coordination, ensuring timelines, deliverables, and expectations are clearly communicated and met
  • Develop customer-facing documentation and provide training to support the adoption
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by sharing customer insights and informing product development.
  • Share customer insights to inform continuous improvement and product development

Must Haves

  • Strong background in Life Sciences (e.g., Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Genomics, Bioinformatics, or related field), with hands-on lab or LIMS experience.
  • Familiarity with configuring scientific software or laboratory workflows, including scripting (e.g., Python), JSON, and SQL for data handling.
  • Knowledge of analytical workflows, particularly in Quality testing.
  • Proven ability to work directly with customers, translating technical and domain-specific needs into practical software solutions.
  • Excellent organizational skills with experience coordinating tasks and timelines across teams.
  • Clear, confident communicator who can educate, support, and build trust with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Fast learner with a solutions-oriented mindset and strong attention to detail.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience implementing LIMS, LES,  ELNs, or related lab informatics platforms.
  • Previous experience in a professional services, consulting, or project-based customer role.
  • Familiarity with software development processes and Agile teams.

This role is open to candidates based in Canada, with hybrid work available for those near our Victoria, BC headquarters. At Semaphore, we’re building a purpose-driven team of professionals who continually grow their expertise and make a real impact in life sciences. Our people are at the heart of our culture and our customers' success, and we’re committed to supporting them with autonomy, flexibility, and genuine care.
