Remote game operations refer to the management and support of online or digital games from a location outside of a traditional office setting. Professionals in this role handle tasks such as monitoring game performance, addressing player issues, coordinating live events, and ensuring the overall smooth functioning of the game environment. They often work closely with developers, customer support, and community teams to provide seamless player experiences. This role is essential in maintaining uptime, resolving technical issues, and supporting in-game events for players worldwide.

Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to work well under pressure are standout soft skills in this role. These skills ensure smooth game performance, timely issue resolution, and a positive player experience in an always-on digital environment.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Platform Engineer based in Netherlands.

As a Platform Engineer, you'll build and maintain the backend services powering a diverse portfolio of mobile games. Your work will span analytics, social features, gifting, leaderboards, LiveOps tooling, and other shared platform capabilities. You'll develop production-grade Python services and REST APIs that can be integrated across multiple products. The role combines hands-on engineering with ownership of observability, deployments, and operational reliability. You'll work closely with SDK engineers and other technical stakeholders to create robust API contracts and integrations. In a remote-first environment, you'll have the autonomy to influence platform architecture while contributing directly to products used by a broad player community.

Accountabilities
  • Develop and maintain production backend services in Python, including REST APIs, data models, and asynchronous workers.
  • Build and contribute to platform features designed to be integrated across multiple games and products.
  • Design, implement, and maintain reliable APIs and backend systems that meet the needs of different game teams.
  • Ensure strong observability for owned services through effective logging, metrics, and basic alerting.
  • Take end-to-end responsibility for the services you release into production, including their reliability and operational performance.
  • Work directly with SDK engineers to align API contracts, technical requirements, and integration approaches.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, architecture decisions, and delivery planning.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, deployment workflows, and broader operational engineering practices.
  • Write and maintain automated tests as an integral part of the development lifecycle.
  • Help improve the reliability, scalability, and maintainability of the shared platform as the product portfolio evolves.
Requirements
  • 2-4 years of professional backend development experience, including hands-on experience with production systems.
  • Strong production-level Python skills and practical experience building maintainable backend services.
  • Proven experience designing, developing, and deploying REST APIs.
  • Practical experience with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with NoSQL technologies such as DynamoDB or Redis.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services, including EC2, RDS/DynamoDB, S3, SQS, IAM, and Redshift.
  • Experience working with Docker and a solid foundational understanding of CI/CD practices.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as GitLab CI or GitHub Actions.
  • Strong testing practices and a habit of treating automated tests as an essential part of software development.
  • Ability to take ownership of production systems and proactively address reliability or operational concerns.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, particularly when working across engineering disciplines.
  • Comfortable contributing to technical discussions, code reviews, planning sessions, and architectural decisions.
Benefits
  • Personalized benefit budget through a flexible benefit-cafe system, which can be used for insurance, education, fitness, or other areas supporting your well-being and work-life balance.
  • Performance bonuses recognizing meaningful results, initiative, excellence, teamwork, and measurable impact.
  • Fully remote-first working model, with remote work treated as the standard rather than the exception.
  • High level of autonomy with minimal bureaucracy and the opportunity to bring your own technical ideas to life.
  • Professional development opportunities, including learning initiatives, internal training, and strategic sessions.
  • Collaborative team culture focused on shared ownership and collective success.
  • Opportunity to make a direct contribution to the technology platform supporting a portfolio of mobile games.
