Remote Game Narrative Designer information

What is a remote game narrative designer?

Remote Game Narrative Designers are professionals who create and develop the storylines, characters, dialogues, and world-building elements for video games while working from a location outside the main office, often from home. They collaborate with game developers, artists, and other writers to ensure the game's narrative integrates seamlessly with gameplay. Their responsibilities may include writing scripts, designing branching storylines, and ensuring consistency in the game's tone and voice. Remote work allows them to contribute to projects for studios anywhere in the world using digital communication and collaboration tools.

How does a remote game narrative designer typically collaborate with other team members to create cohesive storytelling?

As a Remote Game Narrative Designer, collaboration with other team members—such as game designers, artists, and programmers—is essential to ensure the story integrates smoothly with gameplay and visual elements. This often involves regular video meetings, shared documentation, and feedback loops using project management and communication tools like Slack, Jira, or Miro. Clear communication and adaptability are key since team members may work in different time zones. Maintaining thorough narrative documentation and being proactive about gathering input helps align the story vision across the development team. By fostering strong digital communication habits, narrative designers can successfully contribute to an engaging and unified player experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote game narrative designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Game Narrative Designer, you need strong storytelling abilities, a solid grasp of game design principles, and experience with interactive narrative structures, often supported by a relevant degree or portfolio. Familiarity with game engines (like Unity or Unreal), narrative scripting tools (such as Twine or Ink), and version control systems is typically required. Exceptional communication, creativity, and self-motivation are vital soft skills for collaborating remotely with cross-functional teams and pitching compelling ideas. These skills and qualities ensure the creation of engaging, cohesive stories that enhance player immersion and drive a game's emotional impact.

Build the Future of Professional Development
This isn't just a role; it's a career-defining opportunity to lead a fundamental pivot at a successful, bootstrapped SaaS company. Sched is already used by tens of millions of users every year. Now, we are transforming from a proven event management tool into an AI-Native, Agentic SaaS Platform. As our Product Manager, you won't just be managing a backlog - you will be the Architect of our next decade.
If you are a builder who thrives on high-velocity execution and wants to put your fingerprints on a product used by millions, this is your "can't miss" moment.
What you'll gain
  • A massive canvas - direct influence over a product ecosystem serving tens of millions of users
  • AI leadership - hands-on leadership in our platform transformation from event tool to AI-native product
  • True ownership - you will be the primary driver of the product roadmap, managing the design team and shaping the delivery rhythm from the ground up
  • Global adventure - work from anywhere and join our team for all-expenses-paid #Schedcations in locations like Japan, Morocco, and Costa Rica
What you'll own
  • Drive Weekly Active Organizations (WAO) by shifting Sched from an episodic event tool to a daily-use platform
  • Identify and deploy AI Agent features that automate high-friction administrative workflows
  • Establish a predictable, high-performance Product Development Life Cycle (PDLC)
  • Regularly engage with customers and synthesize feedback into strategic narrative for the company
  • Provide leadership and accountability for our UI/UX designers
Are you the AI-native PM we're looking for?
  • The Prototyper - you use AI tools (Claude, Lovable, v0, etc.) to build functional prototypes, not just write specs
  • The Systems Builder -your PRDs are engineering-ready, with direct links to customer pain points so the "why" is never lost
  • The Investigating Mind - you have a Kaizen spirit and aren't satisfied with the status quo
  • The Data Translator - you use Amplitude, BigQuery, and other data sources to defend your roadmap and ruthlessly prioritize
Is this role for you?
You'll likely thrive here if you...
  • Want real ownership and not a well-defined lane
  • Are energized by talking to customers and closing the loop
  • Can build structure without adding unnecessary bureaucracy
  • Are comfortable challenging assumptions and making calls under ambiguity
  • Use AI as a genuine accelerant, not an afterthought
  • Want your work to be visible and your fingerprints on the product

This may not be for you if...
  • You prefer clearly defined scope with minimal ambiguity
  • Your PM practice relies on others to surface customer insights
  • You're more comfortable coordinating than owning decisions
  • You need heavy process support to operate effectively
  • You give feedback sparingly or avoid hard conversations
  • You prefer a larger company with more established product infrastructure
Why Sched?
Sched is a human-first, high-performing, and humble team of roughly 30 global professionals. While we are leaning into a Sales-led motion for our primary industry sectors, we maintain a vibrant ecosystem of free tools and a massive User-Generated Content (UGC) network that keeps our brand at the forefront of the industry.
  • Remote First: 100% virtual team with no corporate office.
  • Generous Benefits: Health/Dental/Vision, 401k matching, and 20 days PTO.
  • No Jerks: happy, humble, hungry people with high performance is the culture we cultivate
