Full-time

Job description

X by 2 is a technology consulting firm specializing in healthcare and insurance. For over 25 years, we've helped companies across the US with system modernization, data and analytics, and more recently Applied AI. We deliver from strategy through implementation with an architecture-first approach, and we're agile, collaborative, and committed to being a catalyst for our clients' growth.

Every winning team needs a quarterback

Our Technology Strategy & Delivery Leads, known internally as Project Quarterbacks, do far more than manage projects. They call the plays, drive the team, and deliver the win. Quarterbacks are hands-on leaders and experienced technologists who thrive in the space between vision and execution. They take true accountability for outcomes, roll up their sleeves, and earn trust by leading from the front.

Our Quarterbacks start as technologists and grow into leaders. There's no single playbook. We encourage every teammate to chart a path that fits their strengths and passion.

Summary

Call the Plays — Lead strategy engagements:

  • Work with C-Level executives and senior management to understand business and IT challenges and shape technology strategy
  • Interview subject matter experts, document current state, perform gap analysis, and define future-state solution architecture
  • Partner with technical and experience architects to build a strategic roadmap

  • Present and socialize recommendations to client stakeholders

Drive the Team — Mobilize and lead cross-functional delivery teams:
  • Partner with an Architect to assemble and lead high-performance teams of X by 2 consultants and client resources, including Solution Architects, Technical Leads, Software/Data Engineers, UI/UX Designers, Business SMEs, and QA Engineers. Team sizes range from a few to 100+ people.
  • Lead hands-on throughout the project lifecycle, from kickoff to launch

  • Inspire and coordinate the team to move together, clearing obstacles and keeping momentum

  • Tailor and execute agile delivery, including managing the board and running ceremonies

Deliver the Win — Drive projects to successful completion:

  • Serve as the primary lead on implementation projects, with full accountability for project success
  • Manage budget, scope, resources, stakeholder communication, and day-to-day execution

  • Ensure solutions launch on time, on budget, and deliver the promised business impact

Earn the Next Game — Build credibility that wins future engagements:

  • Participate in pre-sales meetings, proposal creation, and project estimation
  • Identify repeat business opportunities while working on client engagements

Strategy projects typically run 2 to 3 months. Implementation projects run 6 months to a year, with some large programs extending multiple years. Solution implementations span domains including application, integration, data, and AI.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering

Career Progression Experience (sequential, building over time):

  • 5+ years as a software engineer building enterprise solutions
  • 2+ years leading agile software development teams

  • 2+ years leading or participating in strategy engagements as a consultant

Domain Experience (accumulated at any point during career, may overlap with the above):

  • 5+ years in a technology consulting firm
  • 5+ years combined in healthcare and/or insurance

What Sets You Apart
  • You create compelling artifacts and deliver presentations that make complex ideas clear to technical and non-technical audiences alike

  • You bring high emotional intelligence to keep stakeholders and teams aligned, even when things get hard

  • You have a "make no excuses" attitude and a strong sense of ownership over outcomes

How We Work
  • Architecture-first. We design before we build, and we leverage patterns and frameworks for reuse.

  • Agile by philosophy, not ceremony. Good people, continuous value, close client collaboration.

  • No technology bias. We pick what makes sense for our clients, not what sells.

  • Always learning. New tools, frameworks, and approaches are part of the job.

  • Small teams, real voice. Everyone shapes how the company grows.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base salary between $190K - $217K, depending on experience, plus profit sharing

  • Annual raises and promotions based on performance
  • 401(k) with employer match

  • Comprehensive health, vision, dental, life, and disability insurance coverage, plus voluntary benefits and HSA with employer contribution

  • Home Office Reimbursement, Health and Wellness Reimbursement, and Professional Dress Allowance

  • Professional Self-Development Program

  • Paid vacation, unlimited sick days (as needed), and holidays

  • Company-sponsored social events and an employee recognition rewards program

Location
  • Metro Detroit Area in Michigan

  • Hybrid: Flexibility to work remotely, but not fully remote

  • Travel to X by 2 offices (Farmington Hills, MI) and client sites (within US and Canada) is required when requested
