Job description

Description Are you an accountant who has a love for accounting and a passion for helping those in your community. The DuPage County Health Department is seeking an Accountant who brings strong technical expertise along with a commitment to supporting programs that make a meaningful impact in DuPage County. This role will focus on grants and will touch all facets of accounting - including budgeting, reconciliation, audit, and contract review.

In this position, you will support the Finance/Accounting Team, Department Leadership, and Program Managers while contributing to work that directly benefits the residents we serve This position works out of our Wheaton location, and is a full-time (37.5 hours per week) benefited position. The regular schedule for this position includes working from 8:00 AM until 4:30 PM Monday through Friday. Responsibilities Maintains fiscal records using professional accounting principles and methods Maintains and reconciles funds allocated and disbursed Performs grant accounting functions, including billing, reconciliation, reporting, and grant closeouts Reconciles cash balances for grants Maintains fiscal records and documentation for auditors Verifies accuracy of system-generated reports Maintains key general ledger metrics for grant activity Establishes and maintains cost accounting systems Conducts high-level analytical work Provides fiscal support to management at all levels Assists in preparation of the annual budget Assists with ad hoc accounting reports Supports the month-end close process Aids in preparation of various federal and state funding reports Prepares reconciliations and schedules for the annual audit Participates in emergency response activities as assigned Requirements Completion of a bachelor's degree in Accounting and/or Finance; or an Equivalent combinations of training and experience may be considered for preferred qualifications
