Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer - Front-End Focused

Stand Together

Arlington, VA • On-site, Remote

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Retirement

Re-posted 11 days ago

Job description

Stand Together is a philanthropic community that helps America's boldest changemakers tackle the root causes of our country's biggest problems, from education to the economy, broken communities, and toxic division, among dozens of other pressing issues. We provide our partners with access to resources including funding, thought leadership, a network of peers, and a playbook for applying proven principles to transform lives and society.
As a Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer (Front-End Focused) on our Enterprise IT team, you will own the design implementation for the consumer-facing web applications that serve as the front door to Stand Together's philanthropic community.
You will build and maintain a Next.js/React TypeScript monorepo, implement production-grade UX and performance, integrate with our OpenAPI backend and headless CMS, and ship via CI/CD to AWS Amplify.
The role combines deep front-end engineering, design-system ownership, and operational responsibility for client-side reliability and performance.
How You Will Contribute
  • Lead implementation of Next.js (App Router) features, including SSR, SSG, ISR, server components, and image optimization across our high-visibility web properties.
  • Design, extend, and maintain a reusable component library and Storybook, serving as the team's authority on design system standards and front-end architecture.
  • Integrate client applications with OpenAPI backends and secure authentication flows (JWT/OIDC), ensuring reliability and correctness across auth boundaries.
  • Ensure accessibility, test coverage (unit, integration, and e2e), and high performance standards - with Lighthouse and Web Vitals.
  • Own CI/CD builds, deployments, and environment configuration for AWS Amplify; collaborate on CDN caching and image transform pipelines.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, instrument front-end monitoring, and maintain runbooks and on-call readiness for client-side reliability.
  • Contribute to back-end tasks as needed, working closely with the broader engineering team across a Next.js/React TypeScript monorepo.
  • Mentor engineers on front-end best practices, design system conventions, and performance engineering.

What You Will Bring
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of full-stack software engineering experience with a clear front-end focus and a portfolio of production-grade work.
  • Experience mentoring software engineers.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and cross-functional partnership skills.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, and PHP.
  • Strong Node.js backend experience, preferably with NestJS.
  • Experience designing and consuming APIs in distributed or microservices architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with JWT/OIDC authentication, including Auth0 or equivalent, and passport-jwt/JWKS patterns.
  • Proven experience with relational (SQL) and NoSQL databases - schema design, query optimization, multi-environment deployments, and operational MongoDB (replication, sharding, performance tuning).
  • Experience with Docker and container orchestration on AWS ECS (task definitions, logging, ECR).
  • Working knowledge of core AWS services: Amplify, API Gateway, ALB/NLB, S3, EFS, CloudWatch, X-Ray, IAM, and VPC.
  • Experience building and maintaining automation within cloud-native environments using IaC frameworks (Terraform + Terragrunt).
  • CI/CD experience with GitHub Actions and GitHub OIDC for secure AWS deployments.
  • Observability and production operations experience: logs, metrics, alarms, distributed tracing, and production troubleshooting.
  • Experience with security best practices, including IAM least-privilege, private S3 patterns, and secrets management.
  • Testing and quality discipline across unit, integration, and e2e layers (Jest), with strong linting and formatting standards.
  • Experience integrating headless CMS platforms with modern front-end frameworks.
  • Enthusiasm to contribute to Stand Together's vision and principled approach to solving problems, and a commitment to stewarding our culture, which champions values including transformation and innovation, entrepreneurialism, humility, and respect.

Standout Candidates Will Bring
  • Experience with Contentful CMS, Drupal, and WordPress in headless or hybrid configurations.
  • Familiarity with Turborepo, pnpm, monorepo patterns, Storybook, and design systems at scale.
  • Zod/schema-first validation and OpenAPI generation tooling experience.
  • Hands-on experience with CloudPosse modules and terragrunt layout patterns.
  • Zod/schema-first validation and OpenAPI generation tooling experience.
  • Performance tuning experience for Node.js applications and MongoDB, including caching strategy design.
  • Experience with EFS for stateful containers and mounting/permission management.
  • Knowledge of Checkov, Terraform security scanning, and Terraform CI checks.

What We Offer
  • Competitive benefits: Enjoy a 6% 401(k) match with immediate vesting, flexible time off, comprehensive health and dental plans, plus wellness and mental health support through Peloton and Talkspace.
  • A meaningful career: Join a passionate community of over 1,300 employees dedicated to improving lives and driving innovative solutions to complex social challenges.
  • Commitment to growth: Thrive in a non-hierarchical environment that empowers employees to discover, develop, and apply their unique talents.
  • Competitive compensation: Our approach rewards the value you create through competitive salaries and bonus opportunities, allowing you to share in the success you help drive.
