They are skilled in a variety of programming languages and frameworks, enabling them to handle the full technology stack required for web development. Working remotely, they collaborate with teams using digital tools, manage code repositories, and often participate in virtual meetings to ensure project goals are met efficiently.

What does a remote full stack developer do?

About the role:

As a Senior Full Stack Engineer, you’ll lead the delivery of high impact product and platform work across the stack. We’re looking for someone with strong ownership, sharp product instinct, and the ability to use modern AI tooling to meaningfully amplify their output. This is a role for someone who goes beyond execution, quickly gets to the heart of the problem, challenges assumptions where needed, and delivers practical, high quality solutions with real impact.

In this role, you’ll work hands-on across frontend and backend systems, help shape technical direction, and partner closely with product and design to build fast, pragmatic, high quality software at scale. You’ll also lead the design, architecture, and delivery of production ready AI applications at scale.

Hours of Work: Your core working hours will generally align with Eastern and Pacific time zones. However, as you'll also require partnering with colleagues across APAC occasionally, some flexibility will be required to enable effective global collaboration. We believe flexibility goes both ways, so you'll have the autonomy to structure your day in a way that balances collaboration, deep focus, and personal commitments.

Role Location: We welcome candidates with authorization to work in Toronto, Canada or British Columbia.

Hybrid Work Environment: This role is primarily remote, with access to our downtown Toronto office for collaboration, team meetings, and company events. Occasional in-person attendance may be required based on business or team needs. Our office is located at 100 University Avenue in Toronto’s Financial District, near Union Station and the TTC.

What your day to day will look like:
  • Building new features and improving and maintaining existing functionality across frontend and backend systems, leveraging modern AI tools where appropriate

  • Leading projects by collaborating with product, design and other stakeholders and converting ambiguous requirements into reliable and maintainable implementations

  • Developing and sharing AI skills, workflows and automations that have impact across the organization

  • Collaborating with engineers and other cross functional team members to design functional, cohesive solutions that ship valuable features at scale

  • Designing, building, and maintaining APIs, services, and user facing application features

  • Integrating data from various backend services, systems, and databases

  • Compiling and analyzing data, processes, and code to troubleshoot problems and identify areas for improvement

  • Participating in research, producing POCs, and evaluating new methodologies and technologies that improve quality, reliability, scalability, security, and performance

  • Actively participating in code reviews by providing constructive comments and sharing and adopting best practices to improve codebase quality, efficiency, and security

  • Writing and maintaining software documentation where needed

  • Optimizing the application for maximum speed, scalability, and maintainability

  • Helping shape the technical direction of full stack development

  • Mentoring and guiding engineers through collaboration, coaching, and support in day to day execution

  • Committing to support a safe, mindful, and productive team environment, maintaining open, honest, and respectful communication

How we work:
  • Distributed team

  • High ownership and autonomy

  • Continuous delivery, small releases, and frequent iteration

  • Code reviews and shared engineering standards

  • Close collaboration across engineering, product, and design

  • Pragmatic decision making with a strong focus on customer impact

  • Open feedback, retrospectives, and continuous improvement

  • An AI native environment

Our stack:
  • Frontend: TypeScript, React, Chakra, React Hook Form

  • Backend: Ruby, Ruby on Rails, GraphQL

  • Data: Postgres, Redis

  • Testing: Jest and Cypress on the frontend, RSpec and Minitest on the backend

  • CI/CD: Buildkite and GitHub

  • Observability and tooling: modern AI assisted development tools, profiling, and monitoring workflows

What you need to succeed:
  • Degree in Computer Science or related field and 6+ years of experience, or equivalent practical experience

  • Strong experience building and maintaining production web applications across both frontend and backend systems

  • High level of proficiency with agentic AI native development and being comfortable going from idea to production at a very rapid pace

  • High level of proficiency with TypeScript, React.js, and modern JavaScript tooling along with backend experience, ideally with Ruby and Ruby on Rails

  • Experience designing and consuming GraphQL or REST APIs

  • Strong working knowledge of PostgreSQL, Redis, Sidekiq/Goodjob and backend data flows

  • A solid foundation in computer science and software design, with strong competencies in:

    • clean code architecture

    • data structures and algorithms

    • distributed systems and background job processing

    • authentication, authorisation, and secure software design

    • caching strategies, design patterns, and scalable application architecture

    • integrating with third party APIs and services

  • A strong desire to write testable and well tested code

  • Deep experience working with agentic development tools such as Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, or similar

  • Experience mentoring other engineers and contributing to technical direction

  • The ability to engage in robust and articulate dialogue while maintaining an open mind

  • Strong problem solving skills and sound engineering judgement

  • A pragmatic, objective mindset and the ability to weigh up options based on requirements, best fit, and maturity of technology

  • A skilful and dependable approach, recognizing there is always more to learn
