Job description

Department: Digital Marketing
Reports To: Senior Product Manager, Web Experience & Growth

Direct reports: 0

Location: Hybrid, Denver, CO or home-based, Boston, MA

Position Summary:

Why Join Bentley Digital Marketing Now?

There has never been a more exciting time to join the Marketing team at Bentley Systems. As a globally established, industry-leading software company, we are undergoing a rapid, high-impact digital transformation. We are heavily investing in modern marketing technology, forward thinking strategies, and data-backed experimentation. Here, you experience a rare professional synergy: the scale of a company whose established products actively shape the world's infrastructure, paired with the agility and "builder" mentality of a startup. We are actively building the future of digital marketing at Bentley, and we are looking for innovators to help us shape it.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Optimizely Developer to serve as the technical backbone of our digital growth and web experience initiatives. Reporting directly to the Senior Product Manager of Optimizely, you will be the resident technical expert responsible for developing within both Optimizely CMS and Optimizely Web Experimentation.

We want an engineer who is not just a master of the Optimizely stack, but someone who is highly AI-curious and forward-thinking. You should be driven by the desire to "go fast" - leveraging AI-assisted coding tools to write cleaner code faster, accelerate test deployment, and rapidly iterate on digital experiences. If you love building scalable architecture while constantly finding innovative ways to speed up your development cycles, this is the role for you.

Responsibilities:

  • Optimizely CMS Development (Backend & Architecture)

    • Component & Template Build: Design, develop, and maintain reusable blocks, page templates, and content models within Optimizely CMS (formerly Episerver) to empower marketing teams to launch pages quickly.

    • Platform Architecture: Ensure the CMS architecture is scalable, secure, and optimized for performance (Core Web Vitals).

    • Integrations: Build and maintain API integrations between Optimizely CMS and our broader enterprise tech stack (e.g., Salesforce, Marketo, Adobe Commerce, and custom internal systems).

  • Experimentation & Personalization (Frontend Execution)

    • Complex Test Engineering: Code and deploy complex A/B, split, and multivariate tests within Optimizely Web Experimentation. Handle advanced scenarios that go beyond basic WYSIWYG editing, requiring deep DOM manipulation and dynamic content rendering.

    • Personalization Deployment: Engineer targeted, brand-compliant personalization campaigns tailored to specific B2B user segments and account-based marketing (ABM) lists.

    • AI-Assisted Engineering: Actively leverage AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT) to write, debug, and optimize frontend code, drastically reducing the time it takes to deploy complex experiments.

    • Server-Side Testing: Collaborate on server-side testing initiatives and feature flagging using Optimizely Feature Experimentation (Full Stack) when frontend execution is insufficient.

  • Quality Assurance & Code Governance

    • Technical QA: Conduct rigorous cross-browser and cross-device testing for all CMS deployments and active experiments to ensure a flawless user experience without layout shifts or flicker.

    • Code Quality & Best Practices: Establish and document technical best practices, coding standards, and governance rules for our Optimizely environments.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Partner with CRO & Product: Work hand-in-hand with the Senior Product Manager, Senior Manager of CRO, and Manager of CRO to evaluate the technical feasibility of proposed tests, CMS features, and rapidly prototype solutions.

    • Collaborate with UX/UI: Partner with design teams to translate wireframes and Figma prototypes into pixel-perfect, interactive digital experiences.

  • Requires sitting or standing at will while performing work on a computer (or any other physical requirements).

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 5+ years of full-stack web development experience, with at least 3+ years of dedicated, hands-on experience developing within the Optimizely ecosystem.

  • CMS Backend (Critical): Deep expertise in C#, .NET Core / MVC, and backend architecture specifically for Optimizely CMS (Episerver).

  • Experimentation Frontend (Critical): Advanced proficiency in HTML5, CSS3/SASS, and JavaScript (Vanilla, ES6+, jQuery, React/Vue) to build complex DOM manipulations and dynamic web experiences for Optimizely Web Experimentation.

  • AI & Speed: A forward-thinking, "go fast" mentality with demonstrated experience using AI development tools to accelerate coding, debugging, and testing workflows.

  • Optimizely Intricacies: Deep understanding of Optimizely's specific platform nuances, including Project JS, visual tags, audience targeting logic, anti-flicker snippets, and caching behaviors.

  • B2B Web Experience: Experience developing for complex enterprise B2B websites, including lead generation funnels and gated content workflows.

  • Version Control & CI/CD: Strong experience using Git and modern CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions) for seamless code deployment.

  • Certifications (Bonus): Active Optimizely Developer certifications (CMS or Web Experimentation) are highly preferred.
