Overview

GovCIO is seeking an experienced Senior React/Redux Frontend Developer to lead feature delivery and architectural enhancements across VA.gov applications. This role is responsible for driving front-end technical strategy, mentoring developers, ensuring engineering excellence, and partnering cross-functionally to deliver high-impact and scalable solutions. This position is fully remote located within the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical leader for front-end engineering efforts, guiding architectural decisions, coding standards, and long-term technical roadmap.

  • Design, develop, and optimize user interface components using React.js, Redux, TypeScript, and enterprise design system libraries.

  • Oversee integration of complex REST/SOAP APIs, VA enterprise services, and distributed systems.

  • Lead system planning, architecture discussions, and end-to-end software development lifecycle activities.

  • Mentor mid-level developers, conduct in-depth code reviews, and ensure adherence to best practices.

  • Partner with product owners, UX designers, backend teams, and stakeholders to refine requirements and shape user-focused solutions.

  • Develop accurate estimates, technical approaches, and implementation plans for upcoming work.

  • Create and maintain technical documentation including architecture diagrams, operational guides, and support materials.

  • Oversee and participate in unit, integration, and end-to-end testing initiatives to ensure reliability and maintainability.

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and system performance optimization.

  • Assess system requirements, data flows, security implications, and application dependencies for ongoing modernization efforts.

  • Maintain proactive communication with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment and transparency throughout delivery cycles.

  • Lead sprint reviews, backlog grooming, and other Agile ceremonies as a senior contributor.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field with 5–8 years of professional software development experience, or equivalent.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field with 5–8 years of professional software development experience, or equivalent.

  • 5–8 years of experience building production-grade applications using React and Redux.

  • Strong expertise with JavaScript/TypeScript, modern UI component patterns, and enterprise design systems.

  • Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and mentor development teams.

  • Deep understanding of Agile/Scrum and SDLC best practices.

  • Experience integrating with REST/SOAP APIs and distributed systems.

  • Hands-on experience with automated testing frameworks.

  • Experience in government cloud hosting environments, especially AWS.

  • Proficiency with GitHub, Jira, Confluence, and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a remote environment.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience supporting the VA, VA.gov platform, or other Federal agencies.

  • Familiarity with VA enterprise systems such as CorpDB, MPI, BDN, or VBMS.

  • Strong understanding of government networks, cloud infrastructure, and FedRAMP-compliant environments.

  • Experience in large-scale refactoring, modernization, or migration initiatives.

Clearance Required

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Suitability/Public Trust clearance.

USD $100,000.00 - USD $110,000.00 /Yr.
