What is a remote front end web developer?

A Remote Front End Web Developer is a professional who designs and implements the user interface and user experience of websites or web applications, working from a remote location rather than an office. They use languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to build interactive and visually appealing web pages. Their role often involves collaborating with designers and back end developers to ensure seamless functionality and performance across different devices and browsers. Remote front end developers must also be skilled in communication and time management to effectively work with teams across various locations.

What does a remote front end web developer do?

With skills in user interface design and coding, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, front-end web developers fill a critical role in the creation of software applications and platforms. Many can work from home with a high-end computer and fast internet access. In the role of remote front-end web developer, your responsibilities include collaborating with technical architects, designers, user experience specialists, and the quality assurance (QA) team to design, develop, and debug applications. You also work to ensure the new software works well in a variety of different browsers, on mobile devices, and in conjunction with content management and e-commerce systems. While remote front-end web developers perform the majority of their job duties at home, they may need to travel to the office occasionally.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote front end web developer?

To thrive as a Remote Front End Web Developer, you need proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks like React or Angular, often backed by a relevant degree or portfolio of work. Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git), build tools, and cross-browser testing platforms is typically required. Strong problem-solving, communication, and time management skills help you excel in a remote, collaborative environment. These competencies ensure you can effectively create responsive, user-friendly interfaces and contribute to distributed teams.

What are some common challenges remote front end web developers face, and how can they overcome them?

Remote Front End Web Developers often encounter challenges such as maintaining clear communication with team members and staying aligned on project goals. To overcome these, it's important to proactively participate in regular virtual meetings, use collaborative tools like Slack or Jira, and document your work clearly. Additionally, managing time zones and work-life balance can be tricky—setting a structured schedule and establishing boundaries helps maintain productivity and well-being. Collaborating closely with designers and back-end developers through screen-sharing or code review sessions also ensures a smooth workflow.

Why this job matters:

Working closely with product owners, scrum masters, developers, QA, business analysts, configuration admins, integration, security, and data teams, this role directs the technical execution of a Salesforce delivery pod supporting Sales, Service, and Configuration workstreams. Serves as a technical resource responsible for organizing and guiding all technical aspects of day-to-day support and project delivery, translating business priorities into implementable Salesforce solutions, enforcing platform standards, coordinating technical work across disciplines, and ensuring high-quality delivery through agile/scrum practices, disciplined release execution, and strong technical documentation.

Platform scope: Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Experience Cloud, Financial Services Cloud where applicable, Data Cloud integrations, Salesforce platform configuration, Apex, Lightning Web Components, Flow, APIs, and connected enterprise systems.

What you will do:

  • Lead and coordinate all technical aspects of a Salesforce pod that includes developers, QA, analysts, and configuration admins, ensuring technical work is organized, sequenced, estimated, reviewed, and delivered consistently across agile/scrum ceremonies and release cycles.
  • Provide senior hands-on technical leadership for Sales, Service, and Configuration workstreams, including day-to-day operational work, enhancements, production support, and project-based delivery.
  • Translate business requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria into scalable Salesforce technical designs and implementation plans that align with platform standards, architecture direction, security expectations, and agile delivery commitments.

  • Review and direct configuration, automation, Apex, Lightning Web Components, Flow, SOQL, REST/SOAP API, Visualforce where applicable, and Salesforce integration work to ensure solutions are secure, maintainable, performant, and governor-limit aware.
  • Partner with product owners, scrum masters, and analysts to refine backlog items, define technical tasks, identify dependencies, manage technical risks, and ensure readiness for sprint planning, development, testing, deployment, and support handoff.
  • Lead technical design reviews and participate in architecture, security, integration, and platform governance forums when required, ensuring designs obtain appropriate approvals and exceptions are documented.
  • Coordinate with QA to define test strategy, support automated and manual testing, validate acceptance criteria, ensure adequate unit test coverage, and resolve defects across configuration, custom code, integrations, data, and user experience components.
  • Support CI/CD and release management activities, including source control discipline, branching, build validation, deployment planning, release readiness, change control, rollback planning, and post-deployment verification.
  • Identify, communicate, and manage technical risks, issues, dependencies, and impediments across the pod, escalating when needed and recommending practical mitigation options.
  • Lead technical troubleshooting for production issues, platform events, integration failures, data integrity concerns, governor limit issues, access/security issues, and performance problems in collaboration with support and platform teams.
  • Ensure Salesforce security controls are implemented appropriately, including profiles, permission sets, roles, sharing rules, field-level security, object permissions, secure integration patterns, and least-privilege access principles.
  • Support data migration, data quality, data mapping, and data lifecycle activities, including ETL coordination, validation, reconciliation, and remediation for complex Salesforce initiatives.
  • Maintain and improve technical documentation, including design notes, diagrams, runbooks, deployment notes, code review outcomes, environment considerations, and operational support procedures.
  • Coach and mentor Salesforce developers, admins, and analysts on platform best practices, code and configuration standards, agile execution, estimation, documentation, testing discipline, and release quality.
  • Continuously assess Salesforce platform capabilities, seasonal releases, AppExchange products, and ecosystem tooling to recommend improvements that increase reliability, maintainability, user value, and delivery velocity.

  • Knowledge of Salesforce seasonal releases, AppExchange products, platform roadmap considerations, and the ability to evaluate new capabilities for business value, risk, and operational maturity.
  • Experience designing and supporting Salesforce solutions in regulated environments with awareness of privacy, auditability, data protection, retention, encryption where applicable, and secure integration practices.
